Tell us why our program is a good fit for you and why you are a good fit
for our program. Show us your understanding of the values and culture
of Gustavson and the UVic MBA. Give us insight into who you are and
what contribution you will make to the program.
I carefully considered several schools for my MBA and it finally came down to UVic
because of many reasons.
However, below are a few reasons that made UVic MBA stand out for me.
• Exceptional research oriented teaching at UVic integrated with hands-on
experience.
• The focus on real world experience by virtue of internships or an entrepreneurial
venture.
• Focus on Entrepreneurship and final International Integrative Management
Exercise (IIME).
• The small MBA cohort, which creates a tight bond among students and professors,
the diversity of professional, cultural, and educational backgrounds in the class.
• The reputation of the business school in Canada and the vast alumni network the
school has.
• Also, its aim towards producing a creative, smart and sustainable Gustavson
graduate who constantly looks things differently and aims to change the world.
I would like to emphasize on this particular feature of UVic MBA Programme.
The focus on an entrepreneurial approach, to think, start, lead and work within a
start-up has extended beyond the classical views of entrepreneurship. It is really
something that I can learn from and apply in my day to day work life. And
obviously it’d be a great boost for my long term goal which is to make my family
jewelry business online and offer our services across the globe. I hope my UVic
MBA degree along with several years of work experience with corporates and
start-ups will shape my future the way I dream it.
UVic MBA toolbox will give me a head start towards my new career. I would be
looking towards deeper understanding of the corporate world; a vocabulary to
navigate and communicate effectively. UVic MBA Programme will suffice my
needs through its intense, integrative, international and hands-on approach to see
things differently. The core of UVic MBA programme is international mindset. Its
mix of internationally renowned professors, Canadian and international students
and extensive international program content will deepen my understanding of
business in a global context.
I think UVic MBA has achieved a lot and that reflects quite well in various
rankings. A B-School, one among only 97 B-Schools in the world that has
AACSB and EQUIS accreditation, doesn’t have to explain how wonderful the
quality of education is in there. I’m sure your international, integrative,
innovative and socially sustainable approach must be instilling creativity and
encouraging innovation among your students. I’ve no doubt that the world looks
different from there.
The way I feel UVic will be apt for me, the same way I too, with my extensive IT
experience along with many years of community and social service, would be an active
member in the UVic classroom and contribute towards knowledge and experiences
shared in the classroom. In 5 years of my career, I’ve worked with many fellow
associates and have led a team of 10 people. So I believe this has made me a good
team player and taught me how to manage people and time in a corporate world. I’ve
conducted and attended many training sessions in Smart Edge Software. I believe this
has sharpened my knowledge transferring abilities and it always kept me highly
enthusiastic to learn new technologies and perform better in my career. So I’m certain
I’d be totally committed in the classroom and would add to the classroom’s energy.
I’ve been a part of an NGO, We4You in India since 2010. In 2011, I had led a team of
more than 50 volunteers in Orissa to distribute flood relief and help more than 1
million people in 2600 villages. With the help of Red Cross and our volunteers, we
helped people in more than 1200 villages. I’ve been conducting several fund raising
events for We4You since 2011. Such rich experiences have honed my managerial
skills, time management skills and made me a better team player. I believe these
experiences will definitely help me and my classmates during our MBA.
Therefore, I understand that at UVic with students from across the globe, international
study trips, and the great exposure to global business my journey will be highly
fulfilling and I’ll try to make UVic proud of me as its graduate in every step of my life.
