The Teacher Training Academy provides orientation and training to alternatively certified teachers in the LAUSD. The training prepares new teachers with skills to be effective practitioners and provides differentiated orientations depending on certification. Orientations include a 40-hour pre-service program, district intern program, tailored special education sessions, and programs for Teach for America corps members, foreign credentialed teachers, and teachers in the Transition to Teach program.
4. District Intern Pre-Service Orientation Orientation for: Highly qualified alternatively certified teachers Single Subject: Math, English, Science Education Specialist Credential – Mild to Moderate and Moderate to Severe Logistics: Spring and Summer, 240-Hour/6-week training, 8:00 am to 5 pm (Monday-Friday) Winter: 160-hour training, weekday evenings (4:00 pm – 8 pm) and Saturdays (8:00 am – 5 pm)
5. District Intern Pre-Service Orientation Training Content: District policies Goals and initiatives Classroom management Literacy SBI Lesson design ELD Differentiation Special Education CRRE Equitiy and Compliance Supervised Fieldwork: District Intern participants observe experienced veteran teachers at designated school sites and practice teach for ten days during the orientation with the guidance of an on site coach. Follow-up Support: Occasional school-site visits by TTA staff to provide a continuum of support for new Interns.
6. A free, online course management system that facilitates academic activities and collaborative learning with effective assessment and response features to optimize participant success.
9. Online activity tools provide instructors with effective review of coursework activities.
10. Tailored Special Education Orientation for: Credentialed general education teachers currently teaching special education who may or may not be pursuing an Education Specialist credential. Logistics: 30-hour training (3 days) held 2 times per year or more depending on need. Training Content: Modified Consent Decree (Strategic Plans and Outcomes) Individualized Education Plan Second Step Equity and Compliance Psychological Services Career Transition Services Language and Speech Services
11. Foreign Credentialed Teachers Orientation for: Credentialed foreign teachers in shortage areas of Math, Science, and Special Education Logistics: 24-hour training (3 days) held 2 times per year or more depending on need. 12. Transition to Teach Orientation for: New teachers in a collaborative credentialing program with LAUSD and Cal State Dominguez Hills. Credentials offered in Math, Science, and Special Education Logistics: 24-hour training, (3 days) held 2 times per year, 8:00 am – 5 pm (Spring and Summer). 13. Teach for America Orientation for: Highly qualified teachers in the shortage areas of Math, Science, Special Education.
