2. Parents are often surprised at how much
their kids can change over a single
summer at camp.
3. While many teens begin the summer
shy and a little nervous about going
away to camp, they tend to go home
with a newfound sense of confidence
that they carry with them when it is
time to go back to school.
4. One of our goals every summer is to see
each kid gain new leadership skills, and we
make this happen by providing a variety of
activities that touch upon the basic
components of what it takes to be a leader
in their community.
6. A good leader knows how to turn
any conflict into a win-win situation
for everyone involved.
7. Life at camp is mostly full of positive
moments, but there are occasional
conflicts that arise anytime teens live
closely together for a summer.
8. With help from their counselors, teens
learn how to work out conflicts, such as
who needs to help clean up their bunk.
9. The conflict resolution skills that teens
learn at camp helps them learn how to
help others work out their differences
when they are leading a group.
12. At our camp, we encourage kids to take
safe risks that build their confidence.
13. Learning how to do a flip on the
trampoline or a trick on waterskis
gives teens the knowledge that they
can accomplish anything they set their
mind to do.
20. Leaders need to feel confident in front
of a crowd. This is why we plan several
events over the course of a summer that
give teens a chance to practice their
public performance skills.
21. Family days are one example of
opportunities that teens have to show off
what they have been practicing all summer.
22. They also get to perform in talent shows,
camp competitions and other fun events
that the campers plan on their own.
24. Our campers often plan and execute their
own activities with the help of our staff.
25. Your teen may be called upon to be captain
of a team during one of our competitions.
26. They may also be asked to step in
as a leader when they are working
with younger campers.
27. We encourage teens to look for
opportunities to step up and contribute
to our camp community.
28. We also let teens know when we see
them make positive decisions that help
the entire group.
29. At Adventure Island, we believe that
every camper has what it takes to
become a leader.
30. While it doesn’t happen overnight,
we do see teens become leaders over
the course of a summer.
31. In fact, we often welcome back
former campers as counselors who
take the lead in our daily activities.
32. It’s always exciting to see just how
much each teen changes as they visit
us each summer.
