19. Brownie
It is furry and brown. It always gets near me
whenever I go home from school. It would
bark, âarf arf arfâ then would lick my face.
It is my one and only dog named Brownie. I
love this pet because it always follows me
everywhere. It serves as a police guarding our
house and protects us from strangers.

One sunny and memorable day, I lovingly went to the market
wearing my new, colorful and favorite shirt with my loving, caring and

130. Two years ago, on a chilly, gray, rainy Saturday
afternoon in London, AnaĂŻs Bordier received a screenshot,
sent by a friend, of a young woman in America who looked
exactly like her.
⢠âI was shocked,â AnaĂŻs says today. âI didnât understand
. . . who could that be?â Electrified, her next thought was to
find out more about this girl. And just as quickly, she
dropped the idea.
132. AnaĂŻs was adopted as an infant from South Korea
and raised as an only child in Paris and Brussels. She
knew nothing about her biological mother â only that her
adoption papers listed her as a single live birth. Thatâs
why, AnaĂŻs says, âI didnât think she could be my twin. But
the resemblance was so strong that I thought she might
be related to me to a lesser degree â like my cousin or
something.â
133. Meanwhile, her friends poked around the Web and
found the same young woman â a 25-year-old actress
named Samantha Futerman â in an online trailer for a
movie called â21 & Over.â This time, AnaĂŻs investigated.
âI found her date of birth,â she says. âWhat are the
chances you find someone adopted from the same
country, same town, who was born on the same day?â
She thought of âThe Parent Trap,â starring Lindsay
Lohan as a tweenage girl who discovers her long-lost
identical twin.
âSo this time, I had no fear,â AnaĂŻs says. âI thought
we could be twins, and twins have a very strong bond.
So I made the sudden decision to message her.â
134. It was Feb. 21, 2013. She sent Samantha a friend request
on Facebook that read, in part:
âI stalked you a bit and found out you were born on the 19th
of November 1987 . . . and discovered you were adopted too. So
. . . I donât want to be too Lindsay Lohan, well . . . but . . . how to
put it . . . I was wondering where you were born?â
And then, AnaĂŻs waited.
136. Pitfalls to avoid in feature writing âŚ
ď§ Using a news lead
ď§ Writing in the passive voice
ď§ Using too many adverbs and adjectives
instead of specific nouns and powerful
verbs
