The document describes a single-blind study that tested whether multitasking or focusing on a single task leads to better comprehension. Participants either watched a 3-minute video alone or watched it while answering random text messages. Both groups then took a test on the video's plot. The hypothesis was that the texting group would score lower. Results supported this, as the average test scores for the non-texting groups were 91% for girls and 85% for boys, while the texting groups scored 61% and 56.5% respectively. The conclusion is that multitasking prevents full attention and comprehension.

2. OVER VIEW
Topic: Multi-Tasking
Experiment: Single blind study, participants answered questions via text
message while watching a short youtube clip, others just watched the
video clip
Hypothesis: The people who are texting and watching the video at the same
time will get lower test scores on the test than those who are only
watching the video.
3. CONTROL GROUP
Video clip: “Stone Heart” (3 minutes and 15 seconds long, award winning short
Christian film)
What they did: They only had to watch the video and then were tested on the plot
of the video at the end. These are the questions that we asked them:
1) Who died in the film?
2) Where was the man when his wife comes in to find him?
3) What color is the butterfly the girls play with?
4) What does the red haired girl think the stone heart is?
5) How does it break?
6) Why was it important to him?
7) How does the man react?
8) What job did the person who repairs the heart hold?
4. EXPERIMENTAL GROUP
While watching the video they were sent questions via text
message that they had to respond to as fast as possible.
Once they responded they were asked a new question.
They had the same test questions about the video at the
end.
5. EXPERIMENTAL GROUP CONTINUED
Questions over text:
1) What did you have for breakfast?
2) What did you learn in your first period class?
3) When is your mother’s birthday?
4) What are you plans for this weekend?
5) What was your first pet’s name?
6) What electives did you take last year?
7) What are your college options, if any?
8) What is your favorite sport to watch on TV?
9) Where were your parents born?
10) What are you grandparent’s names?
11) What is the most annoying song that you have been hearing on the
radio?
