1. Are your students prepared for your
classes?
2. Do you have the time or expertise to
review non-discipline content?
3. Would “just-in-time” info assist them?

The action happens inside the online
classroom……….
Everything is great as long as students are
successfully completing course
requirements……….. but what happens when they
aren’t?
The big question, “how can online faculty most
effectively (and efficiently) provide/refer students to
instructional and personal support services?”
Brainstorm
S How do you know when students are in
trouble?
S What do you do to connect students to
services?
S What ways do you use to integrate support
materials into your online instruction?

Example – Mathematics (PSYCH)
The average IQ score on an IQ test is 100. Standard deviations describe how data
are dispersed in a population and give context to large data sets. The bell curve uses
the standard deviation to show how all scores are dispersed from the average score
(Figure). In modern IQ testing, one standard deviation is 15 points. So a score of 85
would be described as “one standard deviation below the mean.” How would you
describe a score of 115 and a score of 70? Any IQ score that falls within one
standard deviation above and below the mean (between 85 and 115) is considered
average, and 82% of the population has IQ scores in this range. An IQ score of 130
or above is considered a superior level. ** From Psychology by OpenStax

  • 32. Example – Mathematics (PSYCH) The average IQ score on an IQ test is 100. Standard deviations describe how data are dispersed in a population and give context to large data sets. The bell curve uses the standard deviation to show how all scores are dispersed from the average score (Figure). In modern IQ testing, one standard deviation is 15 points. So a score of 85 would be described as “one standard deviation below the mean.” How would you describe a score of 115 and a score of 70? Any IQ score that falls within one standard deviation above and below the mean (between 85 and 115) is considered average, and 82% of the population has IQ scores in this range. An IQ score of 130 or above is considered a superior level. ** From Psychology by OpenStax College, CC BY Solution: “Need help? • 33. What’s in it for you? S The supplied modules have already been reviewed for content and ADA compliance. S You can spend your energies on your discipline, not basic skills. S The main reason is to help students in California to complete their educational goals.

Notas do Editor

  1. Require all students to introduce themselves on first day of class on discussion thread. On second day of class, welcome a fellow student who has something in common with them. See if students can follow instructions. Mini-assignments in first week of class. Stake is not large – 1-2 points each. Go and find…. Try a tool….Assess at end of week who has completed tasks and contact students who have not done them. Individually contact those students. Biweekly discussions. Contact students who miss two assignments in a row. Faculty presence is important. Early alert. Time management is biggest problem for most students, not content competency. Watch student progress via CMS and using widgets.
