In recent years, we have seen an overwhelming number of TV commercials that promise that the Cloud can help with many problems, including some family issues. What stands behind the terms “Cloud” and “Cloud Computing,” and what we can actually expect from this phenomenon? A group of students of the Computer Systems Technology department and Dr. T. Malyuta, whom has been working with the Cloud technologies since its early days, will provide an overview of the business and technological aspects of the Cloud.

3. VPN for Remote Access Support
 Use Virtual Private Network (VPN)
 Allows a private network to extend across
a public network to allow users to send
and receive data over a shared network
 Grants the feel of a direct connection to
the private network without actually being
in the same location.

 Allows Users to access there roaming
profiles from home while they remote to
our Private network
 Allows access to files, printers, and
shared office drives
 Grants easy access to information from
practically anywhere

6. Network Virtualization
 Network Virtualization is implemented at work by
using Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs)
 Used with a Switch with VLAN capabilities
 Allows network data to be sent between ports with the
same VLAN
 Network data consists of Data packets which is a
formatted unit of data carried by a packet-switched
network
 Packet switching is just the communication method of
how groups of data are transmitted in small data
blocks

7. Network Virtualization Cont.
 Only computers that are associated with the same
virtual network can communicate with each other
 At work, as a DOE computer technician, I remote to a
PC that is connected to the Main server that accesses
all VLANS

8. Remote Access Support
With Remote Access Support:
 Able to remote to different schools throughout
Brooklyn
 Able to install, update, and remove software
applications.
 Able to manipulate hardware devices (IE:
NIC cards, display, keyboard, disk storage)

9. GOVERNLAN
 Goverlan- DOE IT Remote Control
Administration software
 Allows real-time detection of users
logged in
 Support users without interrupting them
 Support with Active directory
management (Profiles, roles etc.)

10. LogMeIn
 3rd party Software for remote support
 Used when accessing an external network. (
Outside of DOE network range)
 Allows remote access to Mac computers over
Goverlan.

11. Without Virtualization
 In networking aspect, will be unable to
communicate with any external network and will
have to use a 3rd party application
 Have to physically be on the same network to
communicate with computers
 Remote support would be limited
