Please Pet My Kitty

  1. 1. Please pet my kitty Crowdsourcing hits the pets! #CSWVenicewww.petme.it
  2. 2. Why do we love pets? #CSWVenicewww.petme.it
  3. 3. Why do we love pets? Because they: • make us smile (93%) • keep the family together (91%) • encourage us to spend more time within our family (87%) • relieve anxieties (84%) • help us divert from the crisis (81%)
 • are fun to watch on YouTube (100%)
 (ASSALCO - Zoomark 2014) #CSWVenicewww.petme.it
  4. 4. #CSWVenice It’s a pets’ world UK: about 1 pet per household. USA: more than 1 pet per household. www.petme.it
  5. 5. #CSWVenice Members of the family A US survey revealed that pet owners are far more likely to buy a gift for their pet (69%) than for their significant other or spouse (61%), their kids (42%), friends (10%) or co-workers (3%). www.petme.it
  6. 6. Word of snout • “My pet sleeps in bed with me” (more than 60%) • “I receive the most unconditional love from my pet (82%) more than my significant other or spouse (9%), kids (7%), or best friend (1%)” • “My pet gets more kisses on a daily basis than my significant other” (80%) • “The best way to describe my pet is ‘soul mate’” (47%). #CSWVenice "Today more than ever, we know that pets are treated as members of the family”
(Glen Moore, VetIQ vice president of marketing) www.petme.it
  7. 7. #CSWVenice What about Italians? • 55.3% owns one of more pets, (+14% than in 2012). • Dogs are preferred by families with children, while singles dig cats. • 1 out of 2 spends less than 30€/month on them; 1 out of 5 spends more than 51€ per month. www.petme.it
  8. 8. We are family In Italy, the relationship between owner and pet has turned to “friends”… and even “relatives”. 92% say they couldn’t live without their pet: dog owners over 55 years old say they’d do anything to bring their pets on holiday with them. In Italy too, pets are already part of the family. #CSWVenicewww.petme.it
  9. 9. New needs for Fido New needs arise: • pet food (the pet food market in Italy alone is worth €1,7B) • veterinary aid • care & assistance The “pet economy” is estimated to grow at a rate of 7% per year during the next 20 years. #CSWVenicewww.petme.it
  10. 10. Don’t leave him alone! Nobody would want to leave their pets alone, but there are certain cases in which you just can’t bring them with you: #CSWVenice Business trips …plus birds, fishes, hamsters (…or iguanas) don’t really like to be moved! Holidays abroad Museum visits Hospitalizations Hotels or restaurants
 which are not pet-friendly www.petme.it
  11. 11. Where it all began Back in 2013, me and Alice Cimini decided to take a one-month road trip to the US. So we: • found a flat in Brooklyn with AirBnB • rented a car with Rentalcars • decided where to dine along the way with TripAdvisor… • …and where to sleep with Booking. #CSWVenicewww.petme.it There was just one thing we couldn’t find via the internet: a pet-sitter for our two cats.
  12. 12. Technology + caring = We imagined a place where pet owners were able to find the ideal sitter for their cats or dogs, but also for fishes, hamsters or esotic animals. It had to be: free fast easy to use widespread …and, most important of all, caring. #CSWVenicewww.petme.it
  13. 13. #CSWVenice What is PetMe? PetMe is the first Italian crowdsourcing-based community for pet lovers, where pet owners and pet- sitters get in contact. With almost 10.000 registered users and 6.000 pet- sitters, PetMe is the best place to find your ideal pet-sitter. www.petme.it
  14. 14. How it works (it’s in Italian only, but we’ll soon conquer the world and go bilingual) #CSWVenicewww.petme.it
  15. 15. #CSWVenice Give and take PetMe is a marketplace based on mutual trust and common values. The pet owner chooses and books a pet-sitter to commit his or her beloved pet. In return, the pet-sitter guarantees: • expertise • dedication • peace of mind • love & passion www.petme.it
  16. 16. #CSWVenice A petsitters’ identikit Gender: woman Work: students or unemployed. But with professionals steadily growing. Live in: big cities in the North of Italy Web friendly: yes Pets for them are: their true passion. Why on PetMe? To try and make a job out of their passion www.petme.it
  17. 17. Who’s who: our petsitters What’s their age… #CSWVenicewww.petme.it

  19. 19. #CSWVenice A pet owners’ identikit Gender: woman Live in: big cities of the North of Italy Web friendly: yes, mostly Their pet is: like a 2 years old child… no matter how old it is! Why on PetMe? At first to try it out, then because they find assurance, caring and real support www.petme.it
  20. 20. What’s their age… Who’s who: our pet owners #CSWVenicewww.petme.it

  22. 22. #CSWVenice PetMe, pet safe? Crowdsourcing is always risky (well. almost). What we do to be less risky: pre-meeting with the pet-sitter free vet assistance during the whole pet-sitting service refund guaranteed reviews on-site pet-sitters’ training (with OPSI) www.petme.it
  23. 23. Fun case histories Giuliana from Milan had a relative hospitalized in Udine. Claudia sitted her dog. #CSWVenice A customer of Carmela’s travel agency in Verona has to be in Vinitaly, which doesn’t allow dogs. PetMe found her Emanuela. www.petme.it
  24. 24. Fun case histories Silvia and his son from Milan were both sick with gastroenteritis. Marina helped them with their dog. #CSWVenice Monica from Gambolò wanted her dog to be at her wedding: Francesca took care of everything (except for the bouquet). www.petme.it
  25. 25. Lil’ takeaways • Pet owners prefer competence to friendship or acquaintance (and spend accordingly) • Pet-sitters, even when amateurs, are caring, professional and reliable • The petsitting need isn’t anymore seasonal, but “instant” • Pets are like cherries: once you start looking after one, you can’t say no to another one! #CSWVenicewww.petme.it
  26. 26. Is it about time? • DogVacay (US) raised $25M in November, 2014 • Rover (US) raised $25M in March, 2014 • Bibulu (ES) merged with Dogbuddy (UK) • PetMe (IT) scored its first 1K booked nights (in less than 1 year) #CSWVenicewww.petme.it
