BUSTENI,ROMANIA
Erasmus+ is the EU
Program in the fields of
education, training, youth
and sport for the period
2014-2020. Education,
training, youth and sport can
make a major contribution
to help tackle socio-
economic changes, the key
challenges that Europe will
be facing until the end of the
decade and to support the
implementation of the
Europe 2020 strategy for
growth, jobs, social equity
and inclusion.
The Erasmus+ Program is
designed to support Program
Countries' efforts to efficiently
use the potential of Europe’s
human talent and social capital,
while confirming the principle of
lifelong learning by linking
support to formal, non-formal
and informal learning throughout
the education, training and youth
fields. The Program also
enhances the opportunities for
cooperation and mobility with
Partner Countries, notably in the
fields of higher education and
youth.

corresponding benchmarks
• the sustainable development of Partner Countries in the field
of higher education
• the overall objectives of the renewed framework for European
cooperation in the youth field (2010-2018)
• the objective of developing the European dimension in sport,
in particular grassroots sport, in line with the EU work plan
for sport

What is social
entrepreneurship?
• In the opinion of experts:
Social entrepreneurship is the process of pursuing
innovative solutions to social problems. More specifically,
social entrepreneurs adopt a mission to create and
sustain social value.
They draw upon
appropriate thinking in
both the business and
nonprofit worlds and
operate in a variety of
organizations: large and
small; new and old;
religious and secular;
nonprofit, for-profit, and
hybrid.
Young Social Entrepreneur
YES – Young Social Entrepreneur is a youth exchange, founded by
European Commission through Erasmus+ Program. YES took place in
Busteni, Romania with the main activities implemented between 8-15
December 2014 with 24 young people and six leaders from six partner

The aim of our project is to promote the social entrepreneurship culture in
our community. To obtain this, we focused on developing the
entrepreneurial competence among the young people, offering the
opportunity to get involved in their community by solving problems in a
benefic way.
The potential longer term benefits are the changes that these teenagers can
bring, a change in the life of community through opening a social business
and creating jobs for the members of the community.
Among the activities implemented during the project we can remind

Social entrepreneurship –
real life examples
The bank was founded in 1983, and it has generated a net income of
more than $10 million. This revolutionary microcredit system has already
brought credit to more than seven million of the world's poorest people,
most of them in Bangladesh, one of the poorest nations in the world.
Majority (96%) of the borrowers are women.
Muhammad Yunus - Yunus is often called "the world's banker to the
poor“. He has also written the book on social entrepreneurship, where
he describes his experience in microfinance and social capitalism. He
is the founder of the Grameen Bank, an institution that provides
microcredit loans to poor people to help them develop financial
independency.
Social entrepreneurship –
real life examples
Bill Drayton - Bill is not just a great example of a social entrepreneur, he
actually helped to define and promote the term itself. Drayton is the
founder and current chair of Ashoka: Innovators for the Public, an
organization that is dedicated in finding and helping social entrepreneurs
around the world.
Ashoka was founded by Drayton in 1980 and it has provided startup
financing, professional support services, and connections to a global
network across the business and social sectors, and a platform for people
dedicated to changing the world. It launched the field of social
entrepreneurship and has helped to generate new ideas to solve social
problems. Nowadays, Ashoka is the largest network of social
entrepreneurs worldwide, with nearly 3 000 Ashoka Fellows in 70
countries, some of which have already developed leading social
businesses that have made a huge impact on communities around the
world.
How do we understand social
entrepreneurship?
• In turkey opinion – “Social
entrepreneurship needs self-
sacrifice, tolerance and patience.
Social entrepreneurship priority
is to provide benefits in the
society.”
• In Czech opinion – “Social
entrepreneurship is a business
that focuses on the impact in the
community and not focus on
profit.”
• In Polish opinion – “According
to us social entrepreneurship
means brotherhood, caring for
people, devotion, resolving
problems using business
solution.”
• In Estonian opinion – “We
were thinking about social
entrepreneurship and in our
opinion it is kind of business
which solves social problems.
The main aim it is not just
making money but also can
improve life level.”
• In Slovak opinion – “It is a
branch of entrepreneurship
from which a special group of
society benefits. This group
of people also gets a part of
profit from the business. It is
a way of improving life
standards and it helps
separated groups to integrate
into the society as such.”
• In Romanian opinion –
“The social entrepreneurship
is a business which solve a
social problem by reinvesting
of profits.”
Steps to be a social
entrepreneur
• If you want to became a social entrepreneur follow
this steps:
• First you need to identify a community problem. Do
not worry about you not finding one because there are
many;
• After you found a problem you need to seek a
innovative solution to solve the problem;
• Now you have to prepare a business plan and to be
more easy we recommend you to start with Business
Canvas Model.
• After creating the business plan you have to identify a
founding source for your social business.
• After all of these you need to remember you started
this social business to solve a problem of your
community not to enrich yourself.
Conclusion
Florin Cristian is the author and the
coordinator of the Young Social Entrepreneur: “It was a
wonderful project where I met good participants and
extraordinary leaders. Through this project I felt I changed
something among the participants. Now, they have
opportunity to became social entrepreneurs and changed the
lives of people in their community.” Also he says: “The
social entrepreneurship is the coolest job. Is the only job that
gives you a reason to get up in every morning and go to
work, because you will know in every day that you will
change the people’s lives.
