This is a sample lesson of how an iPod touch can be infused into a standards-based lesson to enhance the curriculum. This lesson is in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of Apollo 11 landing on the moon.

In Commemoration of the 40th Anniversary of Apollo 11 Landing on the Moon
2. This lesson is aligned to the
Texas Essential Knowledge Standards
This is a high school Astronomy lesson covering the Earth, Sun and Moon. Today we
are going to focus on the Moon. Key concept students will learn today: Lunar
phases of the Moon relative to Earth, including new moon, waxing crescent, first

16. Making a giant leap into transforming our
schools into Digital Learning Environments
17.
18. Our Vision:
SACAʼs vision is to enhance the
greatness of all our students.
Remember that our people perish for
lack of knowledge. Therefore, it is
pertinent to have knowledge as a
powerful tool for our existence in this
world.
We desire to enhance the studentʼs
learning experience by having a
digital learning environment
Our children are the future...so we
will train them for the future.
Collaborative learning is an
essential 21st century skill. Now,
with the DLE, parity of student
access, student engagement in the
learning process and future
success are always attainable.
19. Connected:
Through the Digital Learning
Environment students are able to go
any place, anywhere, anytime.
They are always connected.
Seniors in Academy Three are each
issued a MacBook notebook and an
iPod touch. Students use their
iPods to view content from iTunes U
and to read books.
Additionally, they have taken on a
greater responsibility for their
learning. Our students are making
their own podcasts, websites and
much more.
20. Life Changing:
It is hard to really articulate, but the
Digital Learning Environment has
changed so much. The DLE has
changed my life as an educator and
taken my creativity to new heights.
It has allowed me to access the
minds of my students in an entirely
new way. They are more engaged
and excited about learning. I am
constantly learning new concepts
through the MacBook each day. I
am currently making podcasts,
creating a website and
presentations through Keynote. I
just love this program!
21. From the lower grades
Students in grades K-5 are using the iPod touch to view
videos aligned to state standards, use interactive apps
from the iTunes Store and as student response systems.
The excitement is so overwhelming we have rolled out 2
carts in Academy One!
to the Upper g rades...
Students in Academy Three are using their MacBooks and the iPod touch to
take their learning to a new and higher level. Student notebooks come
loaded with a suite of software applications that are designed to make
learning more engaging.
Academy Three students are creating their own movies and podcasts,
websites and presentations through the Apple iLife and iWork Suite of
applications. A group of students are currently working on their iLife and
iWork certification and plan to be certified by early Spring.
our students love technology!
22. First Grade.
First grade is the premiere iPod class at SACA. These students are watching videos on their iPods from
unitedstreaming and have mastered coin recognition and money value using a money app on the
iPod touch. Watch out world...they are able to count big money thanks to the iPod touch.
23. Fifth Grade.
The 5th grade class at SACA is by far the most leading-edge. As experts on how to best utilize the
iPod touch this class has taken mobile learning to a new level. They have traveled Sherman’s Civil War
route through Atlanta and explored Atlanta’s terrain through Google Earth...all their iPods. They are
now working on their first Challenged Based Project!
24. Seventh Grade.
Seventh Grade.
Yes. Yes. Yes. This is all the 7th graders at SACA can say since they received their brand new
MacBooks. They were the last in the roll-out, but quick to start working in their new digital
environment. These students have already mastered the iWork Suite.
25. Twelfth Grade.
SACA students in 12th grade
have learned how to make
learning more fun and exciting.
These students have plunged
into the new Digital Learning
Environment. They are creating
content aligned with their
International Studies class,
viewing content on their iPods
from iTunes U, and working on
becoming the first high school
class in the nation to become
iLife and iWork ‘09 certified.
