1. 1. How you think the sound in your chosen example has been produced (production techniques)
2. What post-production techniques have been used to create the soundtrack (using subject specific
terminology)

The game is dead space a sci fi/horror game. While you play the game there is no soundtrack just
the sound of the environment in some fights a soundtrack might kick in but that is not always the
case. All of the sound recordings were probably made in a studio. They may have recorded some of
the sounds but the majority will have been created in a studio. Sounds like 0:41 where the door
opens will have been done in a studio. Also the many recordings that pop up thought out the video
will have been recorded in a studio. Voice over like the women on the screen at 0:20. The sound of
the gun at 2:54 will have been made in the studio using a specific music programme like reason.
I think that some of the sounds may have had echo to them or been made louder. Also I think they
will have made some of the sounds heavier. I think echoes were added to sounds like when the call
ends at 0:39 and the door after that. The monster noise at 01:42 will have been layered and have
affects added to it to make it sound scarier and real. They use all of these affects to create the scary
creepy atmosphere they go for. Most of the editing will have been done in a studio on specific
computers and specific music programs like Reaper.
The sound design for this game is very well done. You get the sci/fi elements like the hologram calls
and the weapons. Then they create the scary creepy atmosphere by showing this emptiness with
just environment sounds like footsteps, doors opening and electrics. This all suites the dark gory
lonely environment so well. All this creates the atmosphere but then when you suddenly hear a
monster scream you start getting scared and worried trying to figure out where the monster is and
where it’s coming from. Even though you’re expecting the monster it still scares you because of how
the environment is. From the gun blasts to the monsters growls the sounds in this game fit the
atmosphere perfectly setting this scary,creepy,sci/fi atmosphere. The sound also gets across the
feeling of survival and that you on your own. Sci/fi fans may not of been expecting the scary theme
of the game but they will of defiantly liked it due to how good it is and some of that is down to the
sound.
