IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR
MEDIA PRODUCT USE,
DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE
FORMS AND CONVENTIONS IF
REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS.
 One way we used forms and conventions of real media products
was through the usage of cutting shots on the beat of the track.
One of Andrew Goodwin's 6 features of music videos related to
the how the shots related to the beat of the music. We have used
an illustrative theory in which the visuals relate to the beat on the
music. A common convention of the genre of our track is to also
use fast paced cuts on the beat to allow the shots to relate to the
speed of the track. This allows a continuous flow to the music
video compared to if the cuts were off the beat at random times.

USING FORMS AND CONVENTIONS
 Another way in which our music video used forms and conventions of
real media products is through the use of a narrative storyline in the
music video. Real music videos often have the feature of narrative to
allow the audience to interact and understand what is happening in
the music video. We learnt this through research into music videos
by artists such as Avicci ‘I could be the one’. Our music video follows
this suit with the main protagonist hating his day to day lifestyle and
looking forward to one specific date on his calendar. We have used
sped up versions of the day to day work shots to also relate to the
beat and tempo of the track. In terms of Goodwin we have took a
more contradicting approach on the use of visuals relating to the
lyrics due to the amount of lyrics which are in our song. This meant
that we either had to do a totally random music video with no real
fluidity or chose to base the music video on a narrative structure.
Use of narrative
 A third form and convention in which we have followed from real
media products would be the use of mise of scene. This relating to
the outfit the protagonist is wearing and equipment and props used in
the shots. In terms of clothing we have used a typical causal outfit
which as found out during research is typical of DJ’s and producers.
David Guetta and Calvin Harris are prime examples of researched
videos which we have taken from. In terms of equipment and props
used in real music videos we have chose to use many musical
instruments and props such as drums, piano and recording
equipment. These are common features of dance genre music
videos as the idea of concentrating on the actual idea of music
production during the track. We have also used Goodwin's idea of a
star image. This is when one main person is in most of the shots and
takes up most of the frame. We have used this in our video with the
DJ being in most shots across the video. The video also relates
around the Djs life as part of the narrative.
Mise en scene
 In terms of developing any forms and conventions of real media
products there only slight evidence of that in our music video , for
example how we chose to cut the shots on a beat. In real music
videos there is often a constant beat which is cut on for example
every 2 beats but during our music video we chose to cut on
every 2 or 4 beats. This could be seen as developing a
convention of real media products as we have chose to develop
the idea instead of being limited creatively and having to cut on a
specific beat. In our music video the pace and tempo of the track
needed speeding up so to use a constant beat wouldn’t have
worked as efficiently.
DEVELOPING FORMS AND
CONVENTIONS
 One aspect of how we challenged forms and conventions during
our music video is through the complete narrative structure.
During real media products music videos often follow a structure
of having part narrative and part shots of the band performing. As
our music video uses a dance track it does not have any
performance involved. This could be considered challenging the
forms and conventions of real media products due to our video
not doing this and having a constant narrative structure.

 Another way that our music video challenged conventions of
media products is through our contradicting style between the
relation of visuals and lyrics. Our music video has a lack of lyrics
which are clear and this in relation to the genre of the track. As a
result of this we have had to challenge the conventions of music
videos. Our music video takes a completely different narrative
structure to allow some structure to be in the music video instead
of a completely random video with little relating. This is evidence
of challenging a form and conventions because it is going against
many illustrative videos which follow the lyrics with visuals. Our
video therefore means that the audience have to interact with the
visuals to understand what is happening.

  • 2. IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS IF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS.
  • 3.  One way we used forms and conventions of real media products was through the usage of cutting shots on the beat of the track. One of Andrew Goodwin's 6 features of music videos related to the how the shots related to the beat of the music. We have used an illustrative theory in which the visuals relate to the beat on the music. A common convention of the genre of our track is to also use fast paced cuts on the beat to allow the shots to relate to the speed of the track. This allows a continuous flow to the music video compared to if the cuts were off the beat at random times. Illustrative music video / Cutting on a beat USING FORMS AND CONVENTIONS
  • 4.  Another way in which our music video used forms and conventions of real media products is through the use of a narrative storyline in the music video. Real music videos often have the feature of narrative to allow the audience to interact and understand what is happening in the music video. We learnt this through research into music videos by artists such as Avicci ‘I could be the one’. Our music video follows this suit with the main protagonist hating his day to day lifestyle and looking forward to one specific date on his calendar. We have used sped up versions of the day to day work shots to also relate to the beat and tempo of the track. In terms of Goodwin we have took a more contradicting approach on the use of visuals relating to the lyrics due to the amount of lyrics which are in our song. This meant that we either had to do a totally random music video with no real fluidity or chose to base the music video on a narrative structure. Use of narrative
  • 5.  A third form and convention in which we have followed from real media products would be the use of mise of scene. This relating to the outfit the protagonist is wearing and equipment and props used in the shots. In terms of clothing we have used a typical causal outfit which as found out during research is typical of DJ’s and producers. David Guetta and Calvin Harris are prime examples of researched videos which we have taken from. In terms of equipment and props used in real music videos we have chose to use many musical instruments and props such as drums, piano and recording equipment. These are common features of dance genre music videos as the idea of concentrating on the actual idea of music production during the track. We have also used Goodwin's idea of a star image. This is when one main person is in most of the shots and takes up most of the frame. We have used this in our video with the DJ being in most shots across the video.   • 6.  In terms of developing any forms and conventions of real media products there only slight evidence of that in our music video , for example how we chose to cut the shots on a beat. In real music videos there is often a constant beat which is cut on for example every 2 beats but during our music video we chose to cut on every 2 or 4 beats. This could be seen as developing a convention of real media products as we have chose to develop the idea instead of being limited creatively and having to cut on a specific beat. In our music video the pace and tempo of the track needed speeding up so to use a constant beat wouldn’t have worked as efficiently. DEVELOPING FORMS AND CONVENTIONS
  • 7.  One aspect of how we challenged forms and conventions during our music video is through the complete narrative structure. During real media products music videos often follow a structure of having part narrative and part shots of the band performing. As our music video uses a dance track it does not have any performance involved. This could be considered challenging the forms and conventions of real media products due to our video not doing this and having a constant narrative structure.   • 8.  Another way that our music video challenged conventions of media products is through our contradicting style between the relation of visuals and lyrics. Our music video has a lack of lyrics which are clear and this in relation to the genre of the track. As a result of this we have had to challenge the conventions of music videos. Our music video takes a completely different narrative structure to allow some structure to be in the music video instead of a completely random video with little relating. This is evidence of challenging a form and conventions because it is going against many illustrative videos which follow the lyrics with visuals.
