Lesson progress:
1. Teacher asks students to read a part of “Gardzienice gestures” (book p.149-151) and to define
the range of creative exploration of Theatre practice centre “Gardzienice”. Than names the
subject and the aim of the lesson.
2. Students watch part of “Metamorphosis” (Pamphilia’s transformation into a tawny, All o
Phoibe- even and uneven rhyme) and the part that shows the technique of acting work with
body (exercise- the lines of a body life, the lines of voice life. Sculpting). After each
presentation, they make exercises individually, and later check them in the talk with the whole
class. During the analysis of all o Phoibe, teacher asks students to remember the two gods:
Apollo (the son of Zeus and Latona, twin brother of Artemida, god of art, beauty, and light)
and Dionysos (son of Zeus and Semele, god of resurgent nature, wine and abundance).
Teacher characterizes them as the patrons of two elements present in the antic art: Apollo’s
element (?) (culture, plastic arts, harmony, intellect, objectivism) and Dionysose’s element
(nature, music, anxiety, emotions, subjectivism). Remembering gods’ image, students explain
their connection with the elements named by their names (distinction introduced by Fryderyk
Nietzsche in the birth of tragedy, 1872)
3. The lesson is ended by a drama- in pairs students try to create the living sculpture imitating the
Greek statues (book, p.98-99)
Homework:
Write down the exercises to the text “Gardzienice gestures” (book, p.152)
Lesson notes:
Due to the specificity of the material, parts of the shows should be re-watched at least twice
