INDIANS – THE NEW GLOBE TROTTERS
Many countries including Bulgaria, Israel, Portugal, Fiji,
Argentina, Seychelles, Monaco, Trinidad and Tobago, Ethopia,
Philippines have stepped up their efforts to encourage Indians
to travel to their respective countries. Their new love for India is
due to the fact that India has a middle class of 300 million
including 1.6 million families having more than US $ 1,00,000
income per annum. Hence the increasing purchasing power of
the Indian middle class along with their willingness to spend on
travel. Also their statistics reveal that India is one of the fastest
growing outbound (people who travel abroad) market in the
world.
The Indian economy has fared far better than most of the
developing countries. Indian International travel has been growing with over 12 per cent average annual growth over the
last six or seven years. World Tourism Organization has predicted that India will account for 50 million outbound tourists
by 2020. The spending capacity of the Indian outbound market is expected to cross US $ 28 million by 2020.
A study by PATA reveals that an average Indian traveler spends more than US$ 1,645.00 per trip of which
approximately 45 per cent is spent on air travel and hotel stay while the rest is spent on shopping, food, sight-seeing,
entertainment and communication. All these factors put together see Indians as the new globetrotters and India as a
money-making destination by these countries.
EUROPE – THE FAVOURITE DESTINATION of Student Groups in India
Europe is soon becoming a favourite hub of student groups from
India. Since the last five years student travel to countries in Europe
has been on the rise. Earlier Europe was a destination for Student
Exchange Programmes but today Parents from all strata of Society
are coming forward to ensure that their child gets the best of both
worlds. Since destinations like Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore,
Thailand have become weekend family holiday destinations hence
Europe is a much sought after destination. Educational Institution
that offer International tours to their students every year also prefer
Europe as an education and fun destination. However each
institution has a purpose to visit each new country in Europe. Art
Museums, Architectural Buildings, Natural Beauty, Historical
Monuments, Walking tours in the Second World war zones, Visits
to the Houses of writers, musicians or artists, Airbus factory or day
cruises to quaint historical islands that evoke memories of the past.
International travel to Europe is in itself an Institution that has no syllabus, no curriculum, no examination, no
marks .... yet can get the attention of the child. A student travels within Europe to expand his own interests. He gets
to know their Management institutions, undergraduate programmes, lifestyles, high standards of hygiene, time
management, local food, underground metros, theatre, fashion and job opportunities. He learns by observation,
questions, and collects material. He comes back to India richer, wiser and with a lot of ideas that he wants to

ARE YOUR STUDENTS SAFE TO TRAVEL
With your current Tour Operator
When students have to travel on an educational tour, in India or to any
international destination, parents repose a lot of faith on the School and
the teachers travelling with the students. They seldom know the people
or the agency that actually plans the day to day programme & the time
to time itinerary. The teachers play their role as Guardians in the
absence of Parents but once at the destination they give charge to the
Tour Operator as he knows the destination, his vendors and the running
of the Program. Since a lot of responsibility rests on his shoulders it is
important to know your Tour Operator well.
Let’s start with his experience, his qualifications, his team and his office.
It’s important to know his workplace, many educational operators work
from their homes, they are a one man show, most of the dealings are in
cash and therefore the tour operator has neither a Pan Card nor a bank
account nor is he paying income tax or Government service tax. He is
also not registered or is a member with any Travel body like the Indian
Association of Tour Operators (IATO) or the Travel Agents Association
of India (TAAI) or the Adventure Tour Operators Association of India
(ATOAI)
The lowest quotation is not the best proposition. This could be very dangerous as many Tour Operators
in order to get the business would cut corners, sacrifice on safety standards & default on Insurance
payments.
In the absence of an All India Educational Tour Operators Association there are no rules that govern the Educational Tour
Operators, since they do not need a license to operate, many inexperienced transporters; caterers and Sports personnel to make a
quick buck have entered the field in the guise of Tour Operators.
Their understanding of the destination is limited, they are not in a position to give their inputs or impart knowledge to the students,
they lack the student friendly approach to handle students or maintain discipline and many are not aware of the Security norms that
govern student tours.
Put your Tour Operator to test... it is important to spend a little time and know him, his company, his past
records, his team, his workplace and his financial statements, it could help you make a wise choice that
you will not regret in times to come.
This is a major cause of worry as he has no legal identity, back up team, sound financial reserves for unforeseen emergencies. If
your tour operator fits into any of the above categories, and should your students encounter any major accident or injury it could put
the School in a spot and open to be sued by the parents on the grounds for negligence.
The best way to know your tour operator is to tell him to design an itinerary of a destination that you know well, in your presence. A
few Schools take a written test of a new tour operator whose services they wish to hire. Another way to know your tour operator well
is to send a School employee who is not known to the Tour Operator to his office and check out his team, his financial records and
his working environment. Most Schools do not go into detail to check the background of the Tour Operator, it is all secondary, their
primary concern is the tour cost and how to further bring it down.
Parents do not mind paying a little more to a Tour Operator who provides a high quality service, adheres
to safety standards and is reliable & dependable.
This could prove very dangerous as many Tour Operators in order to get the business would cut corners and sacrifice on safety

There are seven major processes that the shoe has to go through before it is finally
ready for sale. The steps are: Designing, Cutting, Closing, Lasting, Pasting, Finishing
and Packing.
Designing: This stage is a pre-decided stage and is not
visible in the day to day work as decisions of designing
are done in consultation with the owners, a product is
designed, numbered and the metal models of the shape and
size of the shoe is made and given to the cutting department.
Cutting: The cutting department executes its role in cutting the leather as per the
design of the shoe. All the pieces after cutting are assembled and forwarded to the
next department – Closing department.
Closing: The role of the Closing department is to join the parts by stitching the
various parts together; this department gives an outer shape to the Shoe. This shape is
called the Upper.
Lasting: A last is a model of the shoe made in
synthetic plastic, made in the designing stage. The
Upper is rested on the Last and fixed on it so as
to give the desired shape and size to the shoe.
Once the Upper gets the desired shape, it is then
forwarded to the next department – Pasting.
Pasting: In this process, the Upper with the Last is pasted with the Sole at the
bottom. Here the industrial adhesive glue is applied to both. The Upper and Sole
is first put in a heating machine (approx: 100 degree centigrade) for a few seconds
and pressure is applied to ensue the sticking of the sole to the upper.
Finishing: Once the sticking is complete the Last is removed, the shoe is sent for
polishing and the insole is fitted. The Shoe then moves to Quality control. It passes
through strict check and then moves to the Packing Department.
Packing: Once the shoe is passed by the Quality
Control Department, it is sent for packaging and
distribution. The shoes here are packed in the
boxes as per the designs, sizes, product names etc
and are sent for distribution at the various distributors at different
places for sale.

Shivaji’s Historic Tour

This historic tour is a journey into Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s life. This
short four day tour covers a major part of his life and highlights his
achievements as an able ruler. The tour begins right on the footsteps of
the tiger’s lair and capital – the Raigad Fort. At Raigad visit Shivaji’s
Museum that focuses on Shivaji’s life and times. Also visit the Queen’s
chambers (in ruins now) Takmak Tok or punishment point, its huge
market place the Public Darbar and see Shivaji’s replica throne, the Jagdishwar Mandir and his own Samadhi. The best part of the
tour is that you get to stay at all cooler locales. We drive to Mahabaleshwar and halt there for the night. Next morning, we head for
Pratapgad Fort, visiting this fort brings back memories of the meeting that took place between Afzal Khan and Shivaji Maharaj
leading to the death of Afzal Khan. The fort also houses Khan’s tomb as well as the famous Bhavani temple. There is also a Shivaji
statue on the higher plains of the fort.
The tourist now drive to Panhala and take a night halt in one of Maharashtra’s best kept secret hill-station Panhala. We visit the
Panhalgad Fort the next day. The fort brings alive the Battle of Pavankhind and the daring escape by Shivaji Maharaj fooling Siddhi
Jauhar and his men. Embark on a tour to Teen Darwaza, Ambarkhana, Andar Bavdi and, Sajja Kothi and many other fortifications
in the fort. We also visit the Chatrapati Sahu Maharaj Museum in Kolhapur and then drive to Pune. Next morning we visit the
Sinhagad Fort. The fort though now in ruins reminds us the innovative way Shivaji Maharaj’s General Tanaji Malusare on giant
lizards scaled the mighty walls and entered the fort and brought it under Maratha control, in the battle Tanaji lost his life. Shivaji
rightly said – The fort is won but the lion is dead. The fort houses a memorial to Tanaji as well as the tomb of Rajaram, (Shivaji's
younger son) the military stables and a Kali goddess temple along with a Lord Hanuman statue. The tour achieves its aim in a
nutshell of educating the tourist of Shivaji Maharaj’s life through Fort and Museum visits and firsthand knowledge, the best
way perhaps to learn history.

  • 3. TRAVEL UNRAVEL There are seven major processes that the shoe has to go through before it is finally ready for sale. The steps are: Designing, Cutting, Closing, Lasting, Pasting, Finishing and Packing. Designing: This stage is a pre-decided stage and is not visible in the day to day work as decisions of designing are done in consultation with the owners, a product is designed, numbered and the metal models of the shape and size of the shoe is made and given to the cutting department. Cutting: The cutting department executes its role in cutting the leather as per the design of the shoe. All the pieces after cutting are assembled and forwarded to the next department – Closing department. Closing: The role of the Closing department is to join the parts by stitching the various parts together; this department gives an outer shape to the Shoe. This shape is called the Upper. Lasting: A last is a model of the shoe made in synthetic plastic, made in the designing stage. The Upper is rested on the Last and fixed on it so as to give the desired shape and size to the shoe. Once the Upper gets the desired shape, it is then forwarded to the next department – Pasting. Pasting: In this process, the Upper with the Last is pasted with the Sole at the bottom. Here the industrial adhesive glue is applied to both. The Upper and Sole is first put in a heating machine (approx: 100 degree centigrade) for a few seconds and pressure is applied to ensue the sticking of the sole to the upper. Finishing: Once the sticking is complete the Last is removed, the shoe is sent for polishing and the insole is fitted. The Shoe then moves to Quality control. It passes through strict check and then moves to the Packing Department. Packing: Once the shoe is passed by the Quality Control Department, it is sent for packaging and distribution. The shoes here are packed in the boxes as per the designs, sizes, product names etc and are sent for distribution at the various distributors at different places for sale.
