  2. 2. 1. SIMPLE ASPECT The simple aspect of the verb denotes facts or statements and habitual actions. Example: 1. He goes to church every morning. 2. The boys clean the room daily.
  3. 3. 2. PERFECT ASPECT It expresses the consequences resulting from a previous action or state. Formula in forming a perfect aspect: HAVE + PAST PARTICIPLE (-en/-ed/-d) Example: 1. We have decided to live there permanently.
  4. 4. 2. John has started his homework. 3. She had finished the test. 4. My grandfather had written a love letter. 5. He might have missed the train.
  5. 5. 3. PROGRESSIVE ASPECT Denotes ongoing actions in the present, past and future time. Formula in forming a progressive aspect: ‘’TO BE’’ verb + PRESENT PARTICIPLE (-ing) TO BE verbs: was, were, is, are, am, will Examples of present participle: Writing, going, working, painting etc.
  6. 6. Example: 1. I am going to meet my classmates in from the gate. TO BE verb Present participle 2. The whale is eating plankton. 3. I am leaving. 4. They will be acting. 5. We were driving for seven hours.
  7. 7. 4. PERFECT PROGRESSIVE Denotes a past event that is ongoing or in progress for a period of time. Formula in forming a progressive aspect: HAVE + BEEN + PRESENT PARTICIPLE Example: 1. I have not been seeing my best friends here in Cebu all week.
  8. 8. 2. The dog has been eating meat. 3. We had been driving on a small dirt road when a rock flew up and hit our windshield. 4. They had been cooking for only an hour before their guests arrived. 5. Next year, we will have been working together for 15 years.
