2. Universal Design is…
“The design of products and environments to be
usable by all people, to the greatest extent
possible, without the need for adaptation or
specialized design” (Burgstahler)
3. Why is UDL Important?
There is no such thing as an
average student, so we need
to create a curriculum that is
flexible enough to be
challenging and enable ALL
students to learn.
Every student deserves to be
a successful learner from
day one!
4. Principle of UDL
Multiple means of
representation
Present the information
in both physical and
symbolic forms so that
each student is able to
make sense of the
information
There’s no one way for
students to make sense
of information!
5. Principle of UDL
Multiple means of action
and expression
Provide students with
different ways for
students to present all
that they have learned in
the classroom
Every student
communicates their
knowledge differently!
6. Principle of UDL
Multiple means of engagement
Students will only learn if they are interested, so
provide students with ways to feel motivated in the
classroom and enjoy learning.
Students need to be interested in the material if we
want them to continue to learn!
7. Lessons that are
Hands on
Interactive
Creative
Engaging
Will help make learning
exciting for every student!
