4. According to Ulmer. et al. there are two types of crisis: Uintentational crisis & intentional crisis. The BP oil
spill crisis is an unintentional crisis, because it was caused by unforeseeable Technical Interactions. This
crisis was an continous crisis and lead to natural disasters and downturns in the economy
Impacted stakeholders:
Primary Local communities (citizens), local seafood industry, tourist industry
Secondarily States around the Mexican Gulf: Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Mexico,

The fishermen from the Gulf of Mexico are highly affected:
“I may just have to retire. Since the BP oil spill, we haven‟t had anything to fish because all of the reefs are dead. In
all of my years I‟ve never seen the waters this dead like I have in the last two years,” Mr. Barthelemy, 66
Tourist industry:
Even from the far, the tourism were impacted:
„our area was impacted… more than you‟d expect given the distance we were from the oil.‟ Local hoteliers droped
15 to 20% in revenue in the first months after the explosion
