The trading and cultural contact
already existed between Philippines
and its Southeast Asian neighbors.
The trading was believed that the
Chinese junk-typed boats had
carried it.
Vietnamese Ceramics
• Much of Vietnamese pottery and ceramics
after the Chinese-domination era was
largely influenced by Chinese ceramics, but
has developed over time to be distinctly
Vietnamese. Vietnamese potters
combined indigenous and Chinese
elements.
• Vietnamese pottery and ceramics were an
essential part of the trade between
Vietnam and its neighbors during
feudalistic times, throughout many
dynasties.
Chinese pottery and Porcelain
• the Chinese can claim the world's
longest and foremost ceramic
tradition.
• Pottery was valued in the Far East as
elsewhere for its utility and relative
affordability.
Japanese pottery and Porcelain
• Japanese pottery and porcelain was
often influenced by the Chinese and
Korean. Japan transformed and
translated the Chinese and Korean
prototypes into a uniquely Japanese
creation, and the result was distinctly
Japanese in character.
Indian pottery and Porcelain
• India has a great and ancient tradition
of pottery making. The origin of pottery
in India can be traced back to the
neolithic age, with coarse handmade
pottery - bowls, jars, vessels - in various
colors such as red, orange, brown, black
and cream. The real beginning of Indian
pottery is with the Indus Valley
Civilization
These are found in the different parts
of the Philippines:
• Blue-and-white porcelain
• Celadon plates
• Saucers
• Bowls
• Cups
• bottles
• Containers
• Earthenware pots
• Cooking stoves
• Stoneware jars
Pandanan Island Wreck Site
 yielded well-preserved remains of a
wooden ship with a cargo of
Vietnamese, Thai and Chinese
ceremonies.
They found blue-and-white porcelain,
celadon plates, metal artifacts, bronze
gongs, weighing scale, two small
canons, and some Chinese coins.
Pandanan Island Wreck Site
• From around the 14th century,
it was believed that roughly 70-
75 percent of the ceramics
discovered in the Philippines
are Chinese while some 22-25
percent are Thai and 5.8
percent Vietnamese.
Burial Jars
• These have been found in
association with Chinese trade
pottery of the Song dynasty and the
Yuan dynasty.
• The tradition of burying bones in
jars and hiding jars in caves.

Burial Jars
• Philippine art is essentially religious
in nature.
• The main theme of all arts, from
painting, sculpture, architecture,
music, dance and other theater is
focused on the life of the Gods,
legendary heroes and mythical
beings.
