1. Product Name: Amikante
Salt & Composition: Amikacin 100/250/500 mg. Injection. Amikacin sulfate is a semi-synthetic aminoglycoside
antibiotic derived from Kanamycin.
Drug Class and Mechanism: is an amino glycosides used to treat different types of bacterial Infection. Amikacin works
by binding to the bacterial 30s ribosomal subunit, causing misreading of mNRA and leaving the bacterium unable to
synthesize proteins vital to its growth.
Prescribed For: Severe Gram –ve Infections, Hospital Acquired Infection, Bone & Joint Infections, Bacteraemias, CNS
Including Meningitis, Septicemias, Skin, Soft Tissu, Respiratory Tract Infections, intra-abdominal infections (including
peritonitis), burns and post-operative infections.
Mode of use: Amikacin 100/250/500 mg. Injection is usually given by injection into a vein or muscle by a trained
health care professional. Store in a refrigerator but do not freeze. Take it out of the refrigerator an hour before its
time for the next dose and allow it to warm to room temperature in a clean, dry place. Do not use the injection if you
notice any particles in the solution. Properly destroy the needles after use.
Dosage: Your doctor will prescribe your exact dose and tell you how often it should be given. The dosage is based on
your medical condition, weight, and response to treatment. In some cases laboratory tests (such as kidney function,
levels of drug in the blood) may be performed to help find the best dose for your condition. Amikante is usually given
every 8 hours.
In case of a missed dose: For the best possible benefit, it is important to receive each scheduled dose of this
medication as directed. If you miss a dose, contact your doctor or pharmacist immediately to establish a new dosing
schedule
Interaction: Before using this medication, its best to inform your doctor about your medical history especially if you
have a record of: cystic fibrosis, hearing problems (including deafness, decreased hearing), kidney problems, low blood
minerals (including potassium, magnesium, and calcium), myasthenia gravis and Parkinson's disease. Amikacin may
cause live bacterial vaccines (such as typhoid vaccine) not to work as well. if you have kidney disease or myasthenia
gravis. Call your doctor right away if you notice any change in your hearing.Make sure your doctor knows that you are
pregnant or breastfeeding, before taking this medicine.
You should not use this medicine if you have ever had an allergic reaction to amikacin or any other aminoglycoside
antibiotic
Side effects: Nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, loss of appetite, Pain, irritation or redness at the injection site may
infrequently occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, promptly tell your doctor.
Packaging: Each vial contains: Amikacin - 100mg/2ml, 250mg/2ml and 500mg/2ml.
