2. Based off surveys! Most people stated that before Stonecrest Mall was built the area was quiet, it had less traffic, and the area was covered with trees.
3. Estimated Total area of impervious surfaces Huge parking lot( consists of concrete) stretches over the whole mall. Not many hills Concrete flooring around the mall which will make it harder for water to seep into the ground.
4. Estimated # and average height of trees Approximately 750 trees. Average measure was 7 feet and 8 inches.
5. How were the trees planted? Most of the trees were planted in wood chips. Others where planted in beds.
6. Parking lot About 80% of the entrance were filled About 40% of the department stores were filled About 75% of the movies were filled
7. Where does the water go? Most of the water drain into the sewers that are located in the parking lots.
8. Is the area aesthetically pleasing to you? The area is aesthetically pleasing to our group, because it has beautiful scenery, everything is neat as far as the planting of the trees and there are many activities located around the mall.
9. Questions ?/Answers Did your respondents seem to feel positively about the mall? What were some of the major problems respondents cited about having the mall in their community? What environmental problems did you see that were associated with the mall (e.g., water runoff, aesthetics, wildlife, loss of habitat, traffic)? What functions does this mall play in this community? How can the negative environmental problems associated with malls be minimized? . Are several small shopping centers better than one large one? Why or why not? yes they did. Traffic and noise was the main problems. Loss of habitats and traffic. Fairs and concerts. Drainage can take progress by having more hills to rush the water into a drainage pipe or by creating more lanes so that traffic wouldn’t be so heavy. Yes because large shopping centers include large populations attending the mall, which means increased traffic. I would be aware of the number of hills we have so that the water could run down easier and, the number of lanes, the number of land we take up, and I would consider the organisms that we may affect by building a mall.
