1. Target audience
Because the channel I am designing for is universal I have made the Ident appropriate for all audiences but the target
audience is mainly people aged 15 – 65, I have chosen 15 years + as I believe at this age you can understand TV and how
it works well. The demographic for this Ident is mainly appealing for Working class and above.
Medium of delivery and specifications
The Ident will be shown before and after advert breaks in a program. Not at the start or end of a program, only the
adverts in the middle of the program. The client will have Video and Audio. The Ident will need at least 10 seconds of
play time at most.
Content
I aim to produce a universal TV Ident that is very simple and transparent. My Ident will consist of a 9 x 9 grid pattern,
either tiles on the ground, the side of a building or something else. The Ident will track to a point where this 9 x 9 grid
pattern is in the middle of the screen, at this point the Ident will fade in and begin playing over top of the video. The
opacity of the video will slowly lower and the logo will take control of the image. This will produce a nice simple Ident
that will work well on a universal channel, the logo colour can also be changed when necessary.
Purpose
The Ident in general is not to entertain but to identify the channel itself. Although that’s what Ident means, to identify. I
have designed the logo so that it’s obvious what channel it is you’re watching and I have made it appealing to all ages
and groups. I will have the Ident play before and after advert breaks in a TV program. I don’t want the Ident to play
before or after a show as it’s fast paced like the film 4 Ident before and after advert breaks where it lasts 3 seconds. But
on a universal entertainment channel instead of a movie channel.
2. Management and Roles
This project will be done alone so I will be the manager. I will require the equipment to produce the Ident, I will have
one actor take part for tracking.
Budget
Budget: Canon 600D, 18-50mmlens, 4GB memory card, battery charger and camera bag 12£/Day, a copy of Adobe
Photoshop, Premiere Pro and After Effects for post production.
Importance of planning
Without planning, when it comes to production, you’ll have no clue what you are doing or what you want to make
resulting in creating a terrible product that doesn’t look good or has good meaning. Planning is important because it
helps you make sure you have everything in your Ident you want and helps make a check to check everything is going to
work. Planning also allows you to plan your schedule when physically creating the Ident. Researching existing Idents
gives you an Idea of what you are going to end up creating, you can also gather key information and different aspects
that you weren’t thinking about before that makes sense to add making your Ident better. Production will take 2 days
unless its raining (will change the days if raining)
