3. Print
The design for the print is simple. The elephant is holding a scepter
and wearing a crown, which symbolizes kingship, and riches. Gold
has been used as currency in many places including the U.S! It has
almost always been considered valuable, even in the times of the
Egyptians, and is still used today. Its value is in the fact that it is
shiny, non rust-able, and non reactive, which make it possible to use
for jewelry and decorations. The elephant symbolizes West Africa,
where there are many large gold mines.
4. The date that gold was discovered is unknown and has been valued by man for as
long, and even longer than man has been civilized. It is found in South Africa, West
Africa, Nevada, Alaska, California, Colorado, South Wales, West Australia, and China.
After choosing what I wanted my print to look like I drew it onto a piece of paper,
and then copied that picture onto a piece of tracing paper. Then I went over the
tracing in pencil and then putting the paper backwards on a square of linoleum,
printed the graphite onto the tile.

5. Now I went over the tracing on the linoleum in
parker, and shaded the areas that I had decided to cut
out. That set, I took the iron and warmed up the tile.
Using the carving tools, and cutting away from myself, I
cut out the elephant and the crown. Then carefully, and
using a smaller carving tool, I cut out the scepter.
My next step was to choose my
colors. Using a brayer, I spread
purple ink onto my linoleum. Then
I put my yellow paper onto the
tile, and rubbed it with a wooden
spoon to make sure that the print
would have even amounts of ink

back the paper, and voila!
