1. What is your full name?
My full name is Christopher Columbus.
2. When were you born and where?
I was born on October 31st 1451 in Genoa, Italy.
3. What are you known for?
I was known for being an explorer, navigator and I was fully recognized for
my un-intended expedition to the Americas.
4. Who helped and sent you to the Americas?
Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand from Spain.
5. What day did you departure Spain?
3rd of August, 1492.
6. How many ships did you travel with to the Americas?
I traveled with three ships, Santa Maria, Pinta and Niña.
7. How long was your trip and where did you land?
My voyage was 36 days across the Atlantic Ocean and I landed near the
Bahamas.
2. 8. What were your reasons for exploring?
-To explore and create a new route to the West Indies.
-I would become governor of any lands I discovered.
-Keep 10% of all wealth discovered.
9. Why do people celebrate Columbus Day on the 12th of October?
On the 12th of October I had been accredited for opening the Americas to
the European colonization.
10. What happened on your return to Spain?
My ship Santa Maria got wrecked in the shore on December 24, 1492 so I
returned to Spain on the Nina.
11. What did Spaniards call you when you arrived in Spain?
They called me “Admiral of the Sea”.
12. What did you do on your second voyage?
In October 1493, I left Cadiz (Spain) with a fleet of 17 ships carrying a total
of 1500 colonists.
13. What did you discover on your second voyage?
I discovered the Leeward Islands, Jamaica and Puerto Rico.
14. What did you do three years later in 1496?
I left my brother Bartholomew in charge of Hispaniola and returned to
Spain.
3. 15. What major problems happened in 1492 in Hispaniola?
Hispaniola was in terrible conditions under my rules so the King and Queen
of Spain took me back to Spain in chains. I was released later but my public
support had weakened.
16. What happened on your last voyage to the Americas?
In 1502, I gathered 4 ships in attempt to reestablish my reputation but
instead I struck into the coast of Central America and after suffering many
hardships I gave up my dream.
17. What was your love life like?
I married and settled to Filipa Perestrello in Lisbon, Portugal and we both
had a son who was named Diego. Unfortunately my wife Filipa died and I
had another son with Beatriz Enriquez de Arana whose name was
Ferdinand.
18. What were the first things you brought to the Europe colonization?
The first things were pineapples, sweet potatoes and corn.
19. Why did you call the American native people “Indians”?
I truly believed I reached the West Indies so that is the reason I called them
Indians.
20. When and where was your place of death?
I passed away the 20th of May in Valladolid, Spain.
