Hitachi developed an education program on Universal Design after classroom sessions with their employees teaching students face-to-face. They created an interactive online tool to teach the same Universal Design concepts to thousands of fifth and sixth grade students, without needing their employees to teach in person. The tool instructs students on designing accessible and inclusive products for those with disabilities, using Hitachi's European headquarters as an example, and provides teachers all the materials needed along with collecting feedback on the program.

2.  Cambridge-Hitachi’s education program
was developed out of classroom sessions in
which Hitachi employees teach students

students could benefit from the instruction,
and they designed a program that could
reach thousands with the same information
without Hitachi employees teaching them
in person.

3.  The interactive tool is designed to teach
Universal Design to fifth- and sixth-year
students. The program instructs students in
how to design products that are easy to use
and understand, and that also incorporate
elements that make them socially inclusive
and accessible to people with disabilities.
Each package helps teachers provide
instruction about Hitachi’s business in
Europe and the basics of Universal Design.

4.  The company’s European headquarters
are used as an example of Universal
Design. Students learn how to assess
Universal Design in their own school.
The package provides all the support
materials necessary for teachers, and
Hitachi regularly collects feedback
about the product via email.
