Public speaking and presentations for women around the world
- 2. Why are we offering a free workshop?
Because for many, public speaking is worse than:
Fear of death/Fear of spiders/fear itself – we can help
Symptoms:
Sleepless nights/Anxiety attacks/Dry mouth
Sweaty palms/Blanking – all normal reactions
We want women to be visible and to reflect the positions they
hold in the industry. There are not enough women on panels!
Public speaking is too important to be left to men..

1. Attitude and confidence
What is your attitude towards public speaking?
Whatever it is, it will show.
Your level of confidence will be high or low or
somewhere in the middle. And it will show.
How do we optimise both?
Remember – you have been asked to speak
publicly because you are the expert
‘Imposter syndrome’ is a normal response

2. Practical preparation
Audience
• Panel or solo?
• Who are they? Friend or Foe? Neutral?
• What will they be like to talk to?
• How knowledgeable are they?
• What do they expect?
• How long have you got?
• Any language or cultural issues?
You cannot prepare to talk to a blank void. You need
to have a defined audience clearly in mind from
the beginning, and plan content and style
accordingly.
