All Rights Reserved 3 Background on Challenge  Traditional laundry detergents contain phosphates that are not environmentally friendly and can be harsh on clothes  DuPont offers a number of enzymes in the laundry and detergent market segment around the world  These enzymes enable shorter wash cycles and involve less water usage and lower temperatures, without compromising on performance  The typical enzymes used in the laundry detergent market are:  Proteases (remove grass or protein stains)  Lipases (remove grease stains)  Amylases (remove sticky starch stains) More information on how enzymes work in laundry detergents can be found in the public domain and on YouTube
  4. 4. Capgemini Super Techies Show Season 3- DuPont Challenge Copyright © Capgemini 2014. All Rights Reserved 4 Background on Challenge  Use of enzymes in laundry and washing solutions have a less harmful effect on the environment compared to their phosphate counterparts, which is often not a criterion in the consumers’ decision-making process while buying these products  Some of the barriers to consumer preference for “green sustainable laundry solutions” are apprehension of higher cost, low awareness, and the perception of lower quality or lack of performance, or the feeling that it is just a marketing gimmick  Consumers who feel that the ‘green label’ can influence their decision are often not sure of the magnitude of the benefit; typically, it is the not the only parameter in their decision-making process
