Activity N°1

Objectives: Apply vocabulary of the unit

               Express obligations and possibilities

Instructions:

   -   Students have to write a descriptive text of 100 words, in which they have to
       describe to their best friend.

   -   They have to include for example: the name of their friend, age, activities and likes
       about their friend.



                                        Possible Answer:



My best friend is Alex Simpson, he is 15 years old and also he is my neighbor. He lives 3
streets to the left of my house. He likes skateboarding and football; he is fan of sports in
general. He is my best friend because I can count with him any moment for everything.
His parents are very friendly with me and they invite me almost every day to lunch to their
house. I think that he is the best friend who any person wishes to have it; I’m feeling very
lucky to have him like a friend.
Activity N°2

Objectives: Express obligations and possibilities, using the modals verb "must and might

                Create coherent sentences.

Instructions:

   -   Every student receives a picture with some situation.

   -   They have to write 8 sentences per picture, 4 sentences with must and 4 sentences
       with might.



Examples of pictures




                                       1. - The boy must wear a helmet when he rides

                                             his motorcycle.




                                        2. - The boy must to wear a jacket when it is

                                              cold outside.
3. - You must take some time off and get

    some rest.




4. - You must be here before 8 o’clock tomorrow.

     having problem.

Activity N°3

Objective: Give coherence their ideas through the connectors although y besides and

           sequence markers like first, then, after that, finally

           Use orthographic elements.



Instructions:

- Each student will receive 6 groups of words related to the vocabulary of the unit.

-Create a coherence text with all the words given using connectors like although, besides
and sequence markers.

                                       Possible Answer

Nowadays, the social networks are a very useful tool to communicate with your friends or
family. Although, this new tools have a percentage of low security, in terms of privacy.
First of all, our identity is exposed to the entire world and can be used to other objectives.
For example, many people use blogs to show information to join people who are interested
in the same topic and they write posts related to the main topic. And finally you can use
chat to communicate with people of other cities or countries.
Activities propose for us to reinforce the previous activities

Technique 2: Error detection and correction.

Skill: Writing and reading.

Objective: Recognize the function of necessity and obligation.

            Correct the wrong sentences.

Instructions: Identify the mistakes in sentences and correct them.

Technique 4: Cloze Procedure

Objectives: Apply grammar rules at text level.

Instructions: You have to read the mail below and then
complete with the missing words according to the linking words.




       At first- although- after- and - because- besides




Dear Anne,

Since, I was a child I´ve never been good at physical exercise. Unlike other boys my age, I
have always preferred intellectual activities such as reading or listening to music. Last
year, I got a new computer for Christmas. And (1) although, at first (2) I used it only a few
hours a day, (3) after a few weeks’ things got out of hand. I started chatting with people
from other cities (4) and now I chat 6 or even 10 hours a day. I can be connected to the
Internet the whole night. I have stopped going out (5) because I spend all my free time
chatting and surfing. I´m sure it´s not healthy and (6) besides, my parents get really
annoyed with me. What can I do?
Technique 10: Language Games

Objectives: To identify obligations and possibilities.

Instructions:

-Players: Minimum 3 to 5 players.

-Objective of the game:

 -Before to start the game, you have to highlight the modal verbs that appear on the board
game and then, you have to write it in a chart. According to the modal verbs, you have to
indicate if the modal verb is an obligation or a possibility.

-You have to reach the finish by following instructions on the fields.

-Each of you has to throw the dice and, according to the number indicated by the dice, the
token’s player has to move a number of boxes.

-If two players step on the same field the second one to step can take out the first.

-The first player who reach the box “finish”, win the game!

and they have to start the phrase with an expression of opinion.
