What's makes the difference between good and great design? Or for that matter, between good and great designers?
I don't pretend to know the answer. I've been designing for 10+ years and I still don't consider myself a great designer. What this presentation offers, however, are a few principles I've learned along the path to becoming a great designer.
4. “ Do we really need a simple definition of
design or should we accept that design
is too complex a matter to be
summarised in less than a book?
BRYAN LAWSON, HOW DESIGNERS THINK
”
5. I COULD + YEAH, BUT
MODERN ART = DO THAT YOU DIDN’T

6. “GREAT” DESIGN
...solicits strong emotional response
...justifies its creation
...inspires other designers
45. “ More powerful than the obstacles
around us are the obstacles within us.
The most potent forces that kill off new
ideas are our own limitations.
SCOTT BELSKY, MAKING IDEAS HAPPEN

71. LESSON IN A TWEET
Great hierarchy isn’t always achieved by eliminating
complexity, but by managing it.

103. Fallen.
In silence we ponder
Momentarily.
Years fail to wash away
Memories that stain the walls of yesterday.
What are ey but those we revere?
Indelible is the pain
Yet greater is the courage
Of those who gave the incalculable bequest.
What are we but guardians of the legacy now ours?
Written in our hearts the memories
In perpetuity remain.
Forever
Will the Fallen
Stand.
