1. H A P P Y E A S T E R !
Dear Spanish Friends,
Thank you for your
last letter.
The photos of your carnival were great.
We don’t celebrate St. George in Poland, but we can’t
wait to Easter time. We are having Easter holiday
from 17th
to 23rd
April. Easter is very important to all
of us in Poland. We spend most of the time on praying in the church,
preparing delicious meals and having good time with our families.
On Good Friday we go to church and pray. On Easter Saturday we go to
the church where the priest blesses our baskets full of food.
In the basket there are painted eggs, sausage, ham, bread, a cake called
“babka”, chocolate eggs, chicks and bunnies, salt and pepper, apples,
lemons, oranges, cucumbers and other food.
In the evening there is a special mass in the church and after that there is
the end of the Lent which lasted 40 days (since Ash Wednesday).
On Easter Sunday we have a special breakfast and we eat the blessed
food. We also go to the church an meet our families on that day.
Easter Monday is called “Wet Monday” or “Smigus Dyngus” in Poland. On
that day we pour water on our friends, neighbours and family.
It is a very old and funny tradition. We don’t have a tradition of “Egg Hunt”.
How do you celebrate Easter in your country?
What traditions do you have?
We are so happy about the skype session in May.
May your Easter be filled with joys
and happiness. Have a wonderful Easter !!!
Regards from Polish friends.
