Welcome to LEML Contexts.
This video explains the types of contexts used in the learning environment modeling language or LEML.
This video focuses on the action elements of the LEML framework.
There are four standard types of context in LEML:
Classroom – physical environment such as a typical classroom space
Online-Synchronous – virtual real-time environment like a webinar
Online-Asynchronous – virtual asynchronous environment like many learning management systems, discussion boards
Experiential – applied learning contexts such as internships, job shadowing, or laboratory work
In this example, four different types of learning contexts are integrated together in a single model. The students participate in an online asynchronous environment while having the option for participating in real-time virtual office hours. They then attend a live class session, go conduct an on-site experiential observation, and then return to the asynchronous online environment for discussion and to submit a summative assignment.
The contexts indicate the different modalities that make up the learning environment.
