2. CONSENT FORM
In order to produce and publish our focus group findings online publicly, we had to create a consent form and gain the participants permission,
below, is the consent form we have used. By gaining this permission we are now able to post our research online.
The main purpose of the focus group is to develop our understanding further of what action films have an impact on the audience, what they find
intriguing and look for within a film as by doing this we are able to ensure that our final production will reflect the target audience’s preferences
within action films.
Consent form
As you are aware, we are researching into further depth about action films and its audience and how it creates an impact throughout the film. This
is in order to create a successful opening scene for our AS media coursework and therefore is only used for educational purposes.
We are therefore creating a focus group in which will communicate in discussion the chosen topic on action films and any sub genres that may be
important, thus, the discussion is based on opinions and therefore are no right or wrong answers. By signing, you agree that you are comfortable
with the footage of the discussion to be placed publicly online purely for educational purposes, if you are uncomfortable in doing so, please do not
sign however any attendance will be much appreciated within doing so.

3. EVALUATION OF FOCUS
GROUP.
In order to collect and gain more knowledge into action romance audiences we created a focus group in which we sat and discussed
topics that would help us develop more of an understanding into what audiences dislike and enjoy which would allow us to make
our final opening product suitable and fitting for the audience.
We gathered a group of 11 people ensuring that we were mainly gender balanced and therefore could have an input from both
genders. We decided to associate each other jobs within the Media group to allow the task to run as smoothly as possible, and so
Ashleigh was the leader and Jess working alongside her, deciding which questions to ask, when and who and also to possibly divert
any discussion that becomes either of topic, inappropriate or one sided to allow everyone to freely speak as they wish and to feel
comfortable in doing so and I was working on the camera, ensuring that everyone that was speaking was in shot.
We began the focus group by using an open question to allow the discussion to flow, allowing everyone to open up and begin to
feel more comfortable however it came across rather robotic and “stiff” as people could’ve been nervous and shy at first. However
soon the conversation began to become louder and people were discussing and debating their likes and dislikes about film. It
became apparent when questioning what kind of narrative and structure the audience prefers that they are becoming bored with
how predictable some films are becoming, as they expressed that they already knew that the hero would survive and the villain
destroyed. We have taken this into consideration and have decided to produce an unpredictable ending shown within the flash
forward to show how the movie ends to create enigma and mystery thus creating more entertainment for the audience as they
cannot predict what will happen and also allowing our product to go against original conventions within film.
4. EVALUATION CONTINUED
Furthermore, one of the things that they expressed an interest in is a dominant female, showing recent changes within society as
women are now more equal than they were when films first begun, and so we have created Jamie our protagonist who is shown to
have some aspects of masculinity in order to make her appear different and more strong and independent where as other women
within romances tend to be the weaker more vulnerable.
I believe that the focus group went okay as it was helpful and allowed us to gain an insight into a variation of what the audience
likes, from both genders, however I believe that it could’ve gone better as certain people were more disruptive and disrespectful
when others were speaking and therefore could be improved by excluding them from the discussion in further research.
