What is a LAN and a WAN? A LAN is a local area network or, in other words, a computer network covering a local area, such as a home, office or small group of buildings. A WAN is a wide area network, or in other words, a computer network that is larger than a LAN. So, instead of just an office or a couple of buildings, it might be a whole block in your neighborhood.
