2. The Facts Top oil consumers- United States(17MBD*) - China(8MBD*) Top oil producers- Saudi Arabia(8.1MBD**) - Former USSR(6.9MBD*) *MBD= Million Barrels per Day ** includes the share from the Neutral land
4. So what's the problem? -an estimated 6 TONS of oil enters the seas and oceans each and every year. Oil spills only account for about 5% of that. -oil is a fossil fuel so it is not a renewable recourse, so eventually we will run out of oil and HAVE to find an alternative. Might as well do it now when the economy would be better than right after an oil collapse. -whenever oil enters the waters of the world not only does it cost oil companies millions of dollars, but it also destroys the environment and affects the animal population in the surrounding area for many years
5. Oil Companies One of the biggest problems with oil is the companies behind it. Companies that make billions of dollars and their head operators are living on solid gold, even in the middle of a recession. They know we need gas so they mark the prices up to the maximum amount they can without it being price gouging. Causing the rest of the economy to be slower because less people are buying gas to go places and buy things.
6. More problems… The biggest thing about oil is that it’s a fossil fuel. There's a limited supply of it for an unlimited market. People rely souly on gasoline to get from point a to point b in a quick manner in their cars. Burning oil also lets out so much gas’ when it’s burned that it is the believed main causer of the greenhouse effect and global warming
7. The closer to home problem… The problem that seems to hit closer to home to people in the US is the price of gas. Just look at your local gas station… 3,4, sometimes even 5 dollars a gallon. You figure you have to fill up your car once or twice a week that’s easily $120 a week(that’s how much I spend to fill up my f-150). That’s not only money that could be spent on things that you want, not on gas to get to the store. And also if you look at trends in the past 10 years, when gas goes up people spend less. And when you don’t have people spending money on their wants the economy slows down and eventually you get into the situation we are in now. Gasoline litterally drives the economy!(no pun intended)
8. The Solution The quickest way to get out of the oil crunch is to invest MOREmoney on alternative fueled cars than on foreign oil drilling techniques. And by doing this we are also helping the environment by having lower emission cars.
9. Leading supporter of the solution Al Gore- served in the United states House of Representatives(1977-1985) and also in the Senate(1985-1993) also vice president under Bill Clinton. His main goal in politics is the environment, lately being global warming.
10. Leading countries in Solution -Ethanol right now is the most plausible solution as most cars can run off of it already with a little tampering to an engine. And at this point in time Brazil is the leader in production and exports of ethanol and e85 fuels. -some sports are already taking the step towards a more reliable fuel source Izod Indy Car series and even NASCAR are now using ethanol
