2. Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology,
Dr. Brian Boxer Wachler is a leading authority in the
area of vision correction. He leads a Beverly Hills
clinic and is often consulted by eye surgeons
regarding Keratoconus and other conditions affecting
sight. Dr. Brian Boxer Wachler emphasizes patient
education and explains the progressive
noninflammatory disorder of the cornea at
www.keratoconusinserts.com.
Keratoconus is characterized by a gradual thinning of
the cornea, as it steepens into a cone-like contour.
With this steepening comes increased light and glare
sensitivity, as well as distorted vision.
3. Symptoms typically start in the late teens and
early adult years, with the condition progressing
for a decade or two before slowing or stabilizing.
Keratoconus affects each eye differently, with
soft contacts or eyeglasses employed to correct
astigmatism and mild nearsightedness during the
early stages. Individually fitted rigid gas
permeable contact lenses are often prescribed as
the cornea thins and changes shape, with regular
checkups and replacements of lenses necessary
to ensure proper vision. For many years, corneal
transplant was the traditional option for patients
with advanced Keratoconus.
4. Instead, Dr. Boxer Wachler offers an
innovative noninvasive Holcomb C3-R®
corneal collagen crosslinking treatment, as
well as the use of Intacs®, small semi-circular
corneal inserts. With these treatments,
patients have seen significant improvement
without the need for invasive corneal
transplant surgery.
