2. Canada’s NATO Commitment
When Canada joined NATO it made a serious military
commitment, agreeing to keep a full army brigade and
several air squadrons in Europe
Canadian ships and aircraft tracked the movements of
Soviet submarines and participated regularly in military
exercises with NATO allies
Most significantly, by joining NATO, Canada had to adapt
its defence policy to those of its allies

At first, it seemed that if
hostilities broke out, Europe
would be the battleground
Soon, with the development
of long-range bombers
capable of carrying warheads
to distant targets, North
America became vulnerable
