3. Job Descriptions – Camp Counselor
Under the supervision of the Camp Director and full-time staff, counselors are responsible for:
+ overall program planning and implementation of the recreational day camp
program. (field trips, pool activities and other special events)
+ adhere to all guidelines as outlined in the Camp Counselor Training Manual.
+ organizing and maintaining all camp equipment, supplies and camp areas.
+ the overall health and safety of the children in camp.
+ contacting campers prior to each session and during the week as needed
+ preparing and distributing activity/ summary calendars on the first /last day of camp
+ documenting all accidents, injuries, incidents, complaints and problems.
+ supervise CIT’s and encourage their leadership participation.
+ complying with and adhering to licensing standards (VA DSS)

So let’s begin with the job description of a camp counselorUnder the supervision of the Camp Director and full-time center staff, the Camp Counselor is responsible for the overall program planning and implementation of the recreational day camp program. This includes field trips, pool activities and other special events that are part of the program. The Camp Counselor shall adhere to all guidelines as outlined in the Camp Counselor Training Manual. He/she is responsible for organizing and maintaining all camp equipment, supplies and camp areas. Staff is responsible for the overall health and safety of the children in camp. The Camp Counselor is responsible for contacting campers prior to each session as well as a during the week camp phone call to parents. In addition, staff is responsible for preparing and distributing activity calendars (or syllabus) on the first day of camp and an activity summary at the end of camp. He/she is responsible for documenting all accidents, injuries, incidents, complaints and problems. Camp Counselors are required to supervise CIT’s and encourage their leadership participation. Camp Counselors are also responsible for complying with and adhering to licensing standards and regulations as outlined by the Virginia Department of Social Services.If it seems like a lot, it’s because it is!
