WELCOME
I am delighted to present the
sparkling new season of shows
through to summer 2017.
We introduce a season of our own
summer drama including a large
community cast production of the
award winning play BRASSED OFF.
Over the past month we have been celebrating the
relaunch of the theatre with a fully refurbished Front of
House and brand new auditorium seating. Since 1894
the theatre has seen multiple redesigns to its interior
and to fully embrace a more exciting theatre-going
experience, we can now offer so much more, whether
it's enjoying a cocktail in our new dress circle bar
Arthur’s Of The Grand, or coffee and cake during the
day, we are delighted to be offering a fabulous
hospitality service.
We all have fond memories of the Grand Theatre and
I welcome the opportunity to create new ones together
today, tomorrow and in the future.

THE NUTCRACKER
This most famous of fantasy ballets
for all the family begins as night
falls on Christmas Eve. As snow-
flakes fall outside, the warm glow
of the open fire sends flickering
shadows across the boughs of the
Christmas tree and all the presents
beneath. When midnight strikes
we are swept away to a fairy-tale
world where nothing is quite as it
seems, toy dolls spring to life, the
Mouse-king and his mouse-army
battle with the Nutcracker Prince
and we travel through the Land of
Snow to an enchanted place where
the magic really begins...

of all time is brought to life by
Tchaikovsky’s haunting and
unforgettable score. From the
impressive splendour of the Palace

swans glide in perfect formation, this
compelling tale of tragic romance has
it all. From Odile, the temptress in
black tulle as she seduces the Prince
by spinning with captivating precision
to the spellbound purity of the swan
queen, Odette as she flutters with
emotional intensity, the dual role of
Odette/Odile is one of ballet’s most
unmissable technical challenges.

ALL OR NOTHING
In 1964, a new phenomenon exploded onto the dingy British streets. It was the essence of all that
was cool. It was Mod. Mods stuck two fingers up at the class-ridden society and its dull redundant
culture. They were working-class free spirits who rode sexy streamlined Italian Vespas or
Lambrettas. The sharpest Mod of all was known as a ‘FACE’.
The Small Faces encapsulated all that is Mod, a unique blend of taste and testosterone, neat,
clothes obsessed and street-wise. But these cult sophisticates shared another passion, their
dedication to Rhythm ‘n’ Blues. This quintessentially British ‘Mod’ Musical celebrates the unique
sound of the iconic ‘60s Mod band, The Small Faces.
Featuring the music of the Small Faces, including an arsenal of brilliant hits like Whatcha Gonna Do
About It, Lazy Sunday, Tin Soldier, Sha La La La Lee, Itchycoo Park and of course All Or Nothing.

TRESPASS:
A GHOST STORY
BY EMLYN WILLIAMS
Is it really possible to bring a loved-one back from
the dead? Christine certainly believes so and has
already engaged various mediums in unsuccessful
attempts to restore her recently dead, much loved
husband, to life. But undeterred by failure, she
has now invited Saviello, an Italian medium with
a reassuring record of success. Yet is he what he
appears to be? And what about his down-to-
earth 'manager' Mrs. Amos?
As Shakespeare's Hamlet said to his friend
Horatio: "There are more things in heaven and
earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your
philosophy'. In Trespass, Emlyn Williams explores
some unusual aspects of the supernatural

BRASSED OFF
BY PAUL ALLEN AND MARK HERMAN
Based on a true story, BRASSED OFF is a funny and
life-affirming tale of community spirit and triumph in
the face of adversity.
It’s 1992; and Danny’s lifelong ambition to lead
Grimley Colliery Band to the National Brass Band
Competition at the Royal Albert Hall looks like it
might finally happen. But as Grimley pit faces
closure, the future looks bleak as the town is thrown
into conflict.
Flugelhorn player Gloria arrives in town bringing with
her a renewed sense of hope and a touch of romance,
but no-one knows who she’s really playing for...
Adapted from the 1996 film starring Ewan McGregor,
BRASSED OFF features a full brass band from the
local area playing music including: William Tell
Overture, Death and Glory, Danny Boy, Land of
Hope and Glory and Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez.
EXCITING COMMUNITY PRODUCTION
TUESDAY 5 – SATURDAY 9 SEPTEMBER
MATINEES WED & SAT AT 2.30PM
THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY
PRODUCTION OF
IT RUNS IN THE FAMILY
BY RAY COONEY
Dr. David Mortimore, renowned neurologist, is about
to deliver the most important lecture of his life. A
knighthood is certainly within reach! When into his
hospital sanctuary comes Jane Tate - ex-nurse and
ex-girlfriend - with shocking news as to why she
departed so hastily 16 years and nine months ago.
Not only is Dr. Mortimore the father of her son Leslie,
but the strapping teenager is now in reception baying
to see his long lost parent!
Trying to hold both his career and marriage together,
there is only one solution for Dr. Mortimore – send
for faithful friend Dr. Bonney. What ensues is a
dangerous web of expanding lies and manic cover-ups
involving a Police Sergeant, Dr. Mortimore’s wife,
a severe hospital Matron and Dr. Bonney’s mother as
the duo improvise at breathtaking speed in a near
faultless piece of theatrical invention with the
inevitable ... hilarious consequences.
IT RUNS IN THE FAMILY is farce at its finest, spinning
deliriously out of control and tickling the funny bones
in traditional Ray Cooney fashion. You mustn’t miss it!

ACCESS SERVICES
BSL interpreted, Audio Described and
Relaxed performances are among
the services that are offered at
Wolverhampton Grand Theatre. For
further information on access services
available, go to the theatre’s website
and select the ACCESS menu. Here you
can find full listings of all our access
performances and information regarding
patrons with access needs. If you need
to speak to someone about your access
requirements you can contact Sue
Howell our Access and Operations
Manager. Orientation sessions are
available to look at the venue to view
seats and access facilities in person.
ADDITIONAL ACCESS FACILITIES
Induction loops are available for hard of
hearing patrons at all performances,
and are located at the foyer bar. The
auditorium uses an infra red system
which transmits sounds from the stage
to a headset. This system works with
most hearing aids and the stethoscope
style unit can be used by patrons
without hearing aids to increase the
volume of the performance. This unit is
also used for live commentary at Audio
Description performances giving detailed
information on the visual aspects of a
performance such as set, costumes and
action. Please note Audio Description
uses a separate channel on the headset
which does not interfere with other
uses of this system.
Headsets and necklace are available
from the foyer bar with a £2 refundable
deposit; you can also book them in
advance for Audio Description when
booking your tickets at the box office.
Patrons attending our Audio Described
and Interpreted Performances receive a
newsletter in large print.

CREATIVE LEARNING
CREATIVE
LEARNING
So far the fund has helped support
two major projects: our community
panto project; Come Fly With Us
and our schools pantomime tour; An
Introduction to Panto. As part of the
theatre’s first community panto project
we are currently working with over 20
local community groups and schools,
ranging from Teenage Cancer Trust
to Age UK. Each group has received
a free textile design workshop where
they have experimented with a range
of textile techniques to create their
own decorative design based on the
theme of ALADDIN. Once finished
these designs will be joined together to
create a vibrant magical flying carpet
which will be displayed at the theatre
during panto. We would like to thank
all the groups and schools for taking
part – there will be over 200 designs in
the finished carpet! – and don’t forget
to have a look at the magic carpet when
you visit the theatre during panto.
As part of our schools pantomime tour
we will have visited 20 local primary
and middle schools and performed
to over 4,000 children! The tour
introduces children to the magic of
pantomime with the Grand Theatre’s
very own pantomime dame, Ian Adams,
through an interactive workshop, live
performance and Q&A teaching children
about the history of pantomime and the
British values behind it. Our schools tour
provides an accessible opportunity to
enable all schools to introduce children
to the magical world of pantomime!
GRAND ARENA YOUTH THEATRE
The launch of Grand Arena Youth
Theatre in collaboration with the Arena
Theatre has been a huge success!
Available spaces sold out in 3 hours,
and members are currently thoroughly
enjoying learning new drama techniques
from our professional practitioners,
everything from improvisation through
to physical theatre. We will be offering
new spaces for January, however these
will be limited! If you would like to
be added to the email list for more
information please contact
claudiag@grandtheatre.co.uk.
Weekly rehearsals take place on
Monday evenings at the Arena
Theatre from 6pm-7.30pm for
Juniors, aged 9-13 and 8pm-9.30pm
for Seniors, aged 14-18.
The cost is £60 per 12 week
term (£5 per session).
PRE-SHOW TALKS
Enjoy a useful
introduction to the
following operas with
English Touring Opera.
Pre-show talks are
