DAY 1
Getting the whale
As an artist I have the duty not only to make pretty things, but also to use art as a way of communicating things that are going wrong.
So when I strolled around the mediterranean sea in morocco right across the spanish coast of almeria - I suddenly found a whale who
died because he was poisoned with the garbage that is produced by the local industry.

DAY 2 – where we ´arhh
Yesterday we found a stranded whale on a beach in Morocco - right across Almeria.
Today the Investor told us everythings ready to get the carcass en route.

ready. So we started our attempt to get
the carcass en route to venice. As we
did, I remembered an indian adventure,
where we were at goa and some local
fishermen asked us if we wanted to go
whalewathcing. Happily we said yes and
so after fivehundred rupees we sat n
their boat and went offshore.
After five minutes and approximately
hundred meters into the sea, the captain
stopped and said: “Look over there,
dolphins“ and we looked, and there was
nothing...no movement, no fountain, just
some brown water moving.
„SO you did see dolphin, now lets go
back“ he said.
This was the moment where I realised
that what you see of a whale is mostly
nothing else than some blowing, from
time to time a finn, untill he dies and you
can see the bigger picture.

Otherwise we were afraid he would might end like all of his tiny relatives...because children are all the same, searching for the next big
bouncy thing

Since the Whale being stranded in Africa, it was no Problem to rent some local fishermen and their pets to help us...

So we got some Caterpillars and ...

We lifted it onto a truck, to bring it to venice for the intervention BEINGWHALE on the 55th biennale di venezia

DAY 3 - Bringing it to Venice
Of course the whale was already starting to rott, and since we are existing in a globally connected worldscape africa nowsells ist
ressources exclusively to china – otherwise it wouldnt be efficiently profitable,so we first had to wait for the chinese contractors to arrive,
therefore quite soon it became so smelly, that we had to put it back into the sea. not to attract any unwanted attention through nosy
bystanders and stupid regulations that were enforced by the local police.

But after some kilometres, suddenly on top of a speed bump, the rotten gas
building up inside the whale exploded for the first time and the whole street was covered with intestines...quite nasty and thats just startin

DAY 4 - Meanwhile the media grasped a whiff of the rotten whale and the project came into public attention.
Therefore we made a press release: BEINGWHALE - DELIVERING A DEAD AND ROTTING WHALE ON ST. MARKS SQUARE AT THE
BIENNALE DI VENEZIA 2013 „ART - A ROTTEN WHALE - DECOMPOSING ON A LEVEL OF ELITARY BULLSHIT- DISINTEGRATING
ON NOWADAYS DISCOURSES “ - „NOWADAYS ART AND ARTISTS ARE SOLEMNENLY LEVIATHANS DECAYING LIKE MOBY
DICK, ON THE SEARCH FOR A NEW AHAB - WASTING AWAY THE LIVES FOR THE MARKETS, THIS SYSTEM OF BLOWN UP
CARCASSES WILL BURST INTO A PESTILLENT EXPLOSION OF BLUBBER AND MEAT“

DAY 5 - encyclopedical excourses

Throughout History the Leviathan, Moby Dick, Jonas and the Whale – all through the centuries, whales have filled us with shock and
awe, for their strength, for their enormous size and nevertheless as an Image of unconquerable nature.

So whenever a whale is stranded/beached, a hell lot of people want wo see it with their own eyes, and stear at the sheer amount of dead
animal.

Now with BEINGWHALE these memes come together to form an new kind of myth, at the historical site where there are some
modifications to do. First of all we have to empty la piazza di san marco for the delivery, so no one gets in the way of our artpiece.

To transform the dead carcass by giving it back the purpose and meaning as a former living being – A BEINGWHALE

Therefore we also have to move the pillars with markus´lion so that we can pass through directly form the sea. See images below.
This Intervention is against the ongoing slaughter of whales. Officially proclaimed as research, hundreds of whales are killed and
delivered to japanese restaurants where they don't find customers and get disposed.
This leads to another species extinct in your garbage can. These are the last of the peacefully giants...and were not humans if we led this
happen.

WE ARE CUTTING OUR OWN TWIG THAT WE´RE SITTING, IF THEY DIE WE WON´T SURVIVE MUCH LONGER, LIKE THE
DINOSAURS, EVERY FORM OF LIVE WILL BECOME EXTINCT THROUGH AN EVER GROWING MARKET - SO THATS WHY WERE
BEINGWHALE
Planned to take place on the 01 of June at 12 o´clock, a dead whale will be delivered on saint marks square by the chinese media artist
ren fah. This intervention should raise awareness and be seen as a metaphor for the ongoing destruction of earth while the elusive elite
and its pet the art scene. Biennale is pleasent art – fishing for compliments.

DAY 6 – Hope of DELIVERANCE
This is where the whale is going to come to The weather in Venice is nice at this time of the year...
The symbolic gap between real and reality, between the things you think and the things you get to know by others showed up and
finished the cartesian paradigm. Every act appears as Transsubstantiation - via a possible form of immanation (socially / symbolically /
technically) – an imagined Logic generates subjectively constructed forms of truths, or at least thats what the fundamentalists call it.
NOBODY KNEW WHAT WOULD BE COMING ... BUT then - through the media the whole city was alerted and an angry mob started to
riot against this intervention.

This constructed Reality – as an artform is risky business, but with the antinomies of postmodernism – everyone should be enabled by
the media to see through these strategies. Thats what we thought...but in the End It was like in 1968 or later in the seventies –the piazza
di san marco crowded with Protesters from all over the world. Furthermore they became really personal with their critique – as you might
see on the following pages, they made stickers that remembered me of –no dog allowed signs, and spread them all over the city.

ATTENZIONE - Un´artista folle ha intenzione di uccidere una balena a Venezia.
ALLORA - noi abbiamo bisogno di una manifestazione di protesta contro l´artista
renfah.
Ricattare una balena e fare arte con schifo e spavento...
Una trovata meschina e codarda che giochicchia col dolore degli Animali,
principalmente per sensibilizzare sul mondo che va a rotoli.
E' sempre la stessa storia, un artista vuole superare l'altro, ma stavolta il cattivo gusto
della biennale di quest'anno, specialmente tramite un artista che vuole insudiciare la
nostra bella città Venezia .
Quale istituzione può sentirsi così al di sopra del dolore e decidere del la morte di un
animale con la sola intenzione di soddisfarsi tramite i cosiddetti mass media e l'arte.
E' impertinente, di pessimo gusto, disonorevole...
E' una vergogna
E' veramente necessario perdere tempo con questa cosa?
L'arte, ormai, non è più che un disgustoso divertimento di spregevoli persone
disumane...
E questa dovrebbe essere arte?

ATTENTION - An Artist is going to kill a whale in Venice.
THEN - we need a protest against this artist called ren fah.
WHEN - June 1 at 12:00 on piazza san marco.

DAY 7 -Everything should explode...
Like in the famous predecess cases - covering the streets with slime and blubber from the carcass

nevertheless they hated us ...as if we where some oceancruiser
Or even worse, some pigeon lovering tourists this is where we had to replace the statues of marks lion

SO we were not allowed to come to the city of venezia. Although our cause was just and our mind was clear, we couldn´t convince
neither the biennale, nor the city. Therefore we had to dump the carcass at the lido.

so we had to put it back onto the beach to continue our journey to venice in parts

and all we took was just a tiny piece to bring it to piazza san marco on the first of june at 12 o clock sharp.

but in the end the carcass went by and since then - floated through every aqua alta, as a steady reminder of what happened to the world.
