My Representation My music magazine gives the dance scene an alternative representation. As you can see from the image on the front cover of my magazine, the representation is much more innocent. The magazine is aimed at people ranging from ages 17 to 25. This allows for it to have a much wider audience and therefore must represent the dance industry to appeal to these ages. I’ve kept to the stereotypical rave colours for my model, which is bright yellow and pink. I’ve also used pink throughout my magazine to keep it bright and fun. The colours that I have used connote happiness and bubbly ness. This is how I have represented the dance industry.
Bands I have used bands such as “Lily Allen” and “Chase & Status” on the front cover of my magazine. This music varies from slow ballads to fast drum & base. This type of music represents typical social groups like trendy’s and teens because they know who the bands are and what type of music it is. My magazine represents mainly teens and young adults. The reason I have used music such as this is because the stereotype of young adults shows that they are into music and know about upcoming artists within the industry. My magazine suits this stereotype and gives them a chance to read more about artists and music news.

Double Page On my double page spread I have added a few more pictures to make the layout more exiting. The pictures here represent young adults as trendy and fashionable. This is a stereotypical idea about teens which I have portrayed throughout my magazine. I felt that I wanted to use this ideology because the stereotype is very accurate and I find that most teenagers do come across this way. I’ve used a nice bubbly font which immediately relates to dance music by the way it is written. The fact that I have made the lay out quite easy to read represents teens as easily bored because on this page you know where everything is and they wont need to search for the information. The language I used within the article is popular amongst young people, I've made it exiting and the interview represents this particular genre as very down to earth and up for a laugh. The price of the magazine which is 1.99 shows that its not too expensive which represents teens as always poor. This is another stereotype that young adults get quite a lot. My magazine does not feature any pictures of other social groups such as “emo’s” or “indie’s”. This shows that different cliques and groups are deemed very important within society. I feel that the stereotype here is that whatever music or fashion you are into, that is how you must stay and you cannot switch or be involved in both. I don’t agree with this stereotype, however my magazine is focused on one particular type of music as this is the norm within the media industry, and I wanted to follow this norm.
Stereotypical Women In most music magazines, especially dance magazines, women are represented sexually. There are often shots of women with hardly any clothes on or in bikinis as the photo on the right shows. However my music magazine represents women differently. I wanted to give women a more innocent, happy representation. This is why I have shot my model fully clothed and looking happy. By doing this I wanted to create a role model for young girls to aspire to be like, instead of a typical sexy women. We know that within the industry the perfect image is everything, and sometimes its hard to achieve this in real life. I have also represented women as dominant in my magazine, as I have used poses that are strong and confident. An example would be on my double page spread I used a mid close up, where my model is staring right into the camera. This connotes confidence.
