WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT
ABOUT TECHNOLOGIES
FROM THE PROCESS OF
CONSTRUCTING THIS
PRODUCT?
As we wanted our film to be in the best quality
and done to the best ability, we wanted to use
as much technology as we could to get it just
right. These are the technologies that we used
KEY DECISIONS THAT WE MADE
Apple Mac for Internet research and Blogger.
Voice Recorder to make sure we had our voicemails.
Camera to record our film
Cell Tex to write our script
Phones to use in our shooting
Final Cut Express to edit our film
Google Docs for our questionnaires
 To get prepared for our film we had to use the internet to make our
research into what key conventions make a psychological horror. We
also used YouTube to see how other AS students from different schools
had done their films so we could do something different to the stories
that were out there. We also did this to see what information we could
gather about psychological horrors so we knew what to include in our
film. We also started a media blog in our group so we could keep track
of the information that we were finding and we could also post our
ideas/thoughts onto there. Also it is used for all of our work. We also
decided to do this because it is a much easier way of keeping
organised and it is a way where we can all tag each other in different
posts. To make our script we used Celtx. This was a lot easier than just
having to write it down on word as it gave you the correct text and
headings for your characters. We decided to use this as it would save
us a lot of time, and practically do the layout for us, all we had to do
was write what was going in the script. When we had made our
storyline, we then made a questionnaire using Google docs which we
added questions about our film asking what they think the target
audience is etc… after getting the results, I then used Excel to display
some of the results in a pie chart.
PRE-PRODUCTION
 For our voicemails we used a Voice Recorder, that recorded all of our voices and
different sounds that we wanted to make, we decided to do this because it was
easier than recording them on a phone because it was better quality and you just
had to plug it into the Apple Mac and it uploaded . After uploading it to the film, we
added a tinny effect to it to make sure it sounded like a voicemail. To actually film
our film, we used a big DV Camera, we decided to use this camera because it was
excellent quality, and after being shown what to do with it, we then knew how to
work it. We also used my mobile phone to feature in the film as Violet’s phone
when she phones voicemail. After we had got the footage that we needed, we then
uploaded the film onto Final Cut Express, which helped us in editing our
film, adding the effects and shots that was needed.
PRODUCTION
 After we had finished our film, we then uploaded it to YouTube
and created another questionnaire using Google docs asking
what peoples opinions of the film we had created. We decided
to use Google Docs because it is quick easy, and you can also
put the link onto your Blogger.
POST-PRODUCTION
 I feel that what went the most successful was using Final Cut
Express. It was really easy to come to grips with. When you
had used it a couple of times, everything became really easy. I
found adding the titles quite difficult, but then I got to grips
with it. I feel that if we wasn’t as skilled as we was with Final
Cut Express, then our film would have not been as good as it
is now. Also using Blogger has been really useful and easy to
keep all of our work organised, also it helped us work more of
a team because we could see all of the posts if we needed any
help and was struggling to write something, then we could
just look at each others posts to give our self an idea of what
we are writing about!
WHAT WAS SUCCESSFUL?
 I have definitely learnt a new set of skills whilst doing this
media project. I now know how to work Blogger and am
planning to start my own Blog, as I feel that it is so fast and
easy to use! I also know how to write scripts on Celtx, this will
become useful for the future because I am really into drama
and feel that I would be able to write my own script if needed
without any help. I also know how to edit on Final Cut Express,
because I have become so used to using it, so for future
reference if I ever need to put some things together then I will
know how to use it. A lot of the other technologies that we
used I thought were quite basic, so not a lot of learning how
to use them was needed.
