TYPES OF ENERGY ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES
FOSSIL FUELS
• It is an easy and a regular way of
producing energy.
• It is not so expensive to build power
plants.
• They will run out one day.
• It pollutes a lot; it emits greenhouse gases, acid rain
and it pollutes rivers and lakes.
NUCLEAR
• It produces a great amount of energy.
• It neither produces acid rain nor
greenhouse gases.
• It can cause serious damages and accidents.
• It’s very difficult and dangerous to keep radioactive
waste.
• The facilities are very expensive.

HYDRAULIC
• It’s free.
• It’s easy to keep.
• It’s clean.
• The reservoirs regulate the flow of the
rivers.
• The facilities are very expensive.
• The water supply is irregular.
• The reservoirs produce environmental alterations (e.
g. in landscapes).
• Heat waves can limit the quantity of this type of
energy.
WIND
• It’s clean and free.
• It won’t run out.
• There are very few safety risks with wind
turbines.
• It’s a quick way of producing mechanical
energy.
• The power generators are very expensive.
• It’s production is not regular.
• It’s very noisy and it can cause a negative visual
impact on landscapes.
SOLAR
• It’s free.
• It’s clean, it doesn’t pollute.
• The sun will always be there during our
lifetime, so this type of energy won’t run
out.
• A great amount of land is needed.
• The facilities are very expensive.
• Its production is discontinuous.
• Environmental impact due to solar panels.
BIOMASS
• It reduces waste
• It creates little rubbish.
• It pollutes since it produces C02.
• It’s limited.
• It takes a long time to be created.
• Many trees are cutting down.
GEOTHERMAL
• It’s clean: it doesn’t produce big amounts
of waste.
• It’s quite regular.
• It’s practically endless.
• Advanced and very expensive technological devices
are needed.
• It’s very expensive.
• It deteriorates the landscape and the ecosystem.
• It cannot be transported.
SOLID URBAN WASTE
• It reduces waste. • It pollutes.
• It generates poisonous/ toxic products and release
heavy metals.
TIDAL ENERGY
• Tides are free and will not run out.
• It doesn’t pollute.
• It’s noiseless/ it’s a quiet type of energy.
• It has a negative impact on the landscape, flora and
fauna.
WAVE ENERGY
• It’s clean and free.
• Wave power does not produce
greenhouse gases.
• The facilities and the equipment are very expensive.
• Electricity production depends on the wave speed,
height and length.
