Leadership & Management Skills
1. Abhik Gupta
Ever since high school I have always taken leadership roles, and
always proactively volunteered
to take managerial and organizational responsibilities. Thus,
through various academic, extra-
curricular and community related activities, I have been
subconsciously honing my
management abilities. By learning how to lead teams effectively
and motivating each team-
member to perform to the best of their capabilities, I have
sharpened my leadership skills. By
organizing events in college and completing all tasks within
strict timelines, I have developed
my organizational abilities. I am now keen to pursue a formal
degree in the field of Innovation
Management and Entrepreneurship to further sharpen my
existing skill set and prepare myself
for the much more challenging managerial and entrepreneurial
roles that I aspire to take on in
my future career.
Pursuing the Bachelor of Commerce, Honours degree at the
2. University of Delhi, I have taken
several academic courses in fields of management, business
studies, accounting and finance,
economics and marketing strategies. My undergraduate studies
have thus given me a concrete
base for research and study in Management and other
managerial courses. Apart from
academics, I have also utilized my college years to participate
in extra-curricular activities that
have allowed me to lead teams and manage varied
responsibilities and entrepreneurial
activities. As a senior member of the debating team of our
college, I have led my team to win
debating contests at the inter-varsity level. I also helped to
manage the organisation of the
Guru-Shishya Debate held at our university. My leadership
skills have also helped me at the
sports field, wherein as the Vice-Captain of the Cricket team of
the university, I have often
devised strategies, team-tactics and sporting plans allowing us
to outsmart the competition and
win coveted sporting trophies.
I have also grabbed every opportunity to engage myself in
meaningful academic projects,
3. learning opportunities at international universities, and industry
internships to gain a pragmatic
and more holistic perspective of the field of business
management. By pursuing a summer
school at London School of Economics, I interacted with
business students from all parts of
world and worked collaboratively with them to complete
academic assignments and projects.
This stint gave my managerial learning a much needed
international perspective.
In 2015, I pursued a summer internship with a
telecommunications company where I assisted
the managerial team in formulating new advertising plans to
help grow the flagship brand and
make innovative changes in the marketing strategy for the
brand. The subsequent summer I
worked with another reputed business organization where I
worked with clients and team
managers to find novel solutions for their business problems.
The most rewarding of my
internships was during the summer of 2017 where I worked
alongside the senior execution and
business development team of a real-estate development
company. I was involved in assessing
4. the financial viability of a new real-estate development project,
and in doing so was able to
Abhik Gupta
learn several practical facets of the world of business
management. All these internships, albeit
in different industries, helped me to appreciate the management
styles of my superiors and
managers under whose guidance I was able to contribute to the
firms. I was also able to
uncover my own entrepreneurial abilities and passion for
devising and developing innovative
business strategies.
In order to gain advanced skills in the domain of management
and entrepreneurship, I am
applying to the Masters in Innovation Management and
Entrepreneurship program at Imperial
College London. I feel that learning under the guidance of your
reputed faculty will augment
my abilities to build an illustrious career in the field of
management and innovation by helping
me learn about the latest developments in the world of global
business opportunities, novel
5. styles of marketing, and efficient styles of leadership. I will
then be able to make the best use of
my passion for business to add value to whichever international
business enterprises that I
work with by helping them make better marketing decisions,
drive innovative changes and
build new business divisions.
The highly reputed graduate program at Imperial College
London provides myriads of
opportunities for me to channelize my entrepreneurial and
analytical skills in a greatly
encouraging and stimulant environment. Along with technical
knowledge of business principles,
accounting rules, and marketing strategies, associating with
campus organizations and research
centres will also provide me with the perfect platform to learn
the fundamentals of all the
diverse fields in business.
Moreover, Imperial is world-renowned for preparing and
producing leaders. At multiple
instances in high school and college, and in my community in
India, I have taken up the
responsibility that comes with being a leader. I plan to actively
6. participate in presentations
made by guest speakers, leadership workshops, and the other
fantastic programs conducted by
Imperial. Also the global nature of the MSc Innovation
Management and Entrepreneurship
program at Imperial will bring me in contact with people from
different parts of the world, thus
allowing me a chance to understand different viewpoints and
ideas.
I would be very proud to be a part of the student community of
the Imperial Business School
that has earned itself a distinct reckoning amongst the best in
the world. My propensity
towards challenging real-world business problems will enable
me to channelize my energy
towards pursuing my goals. My application is a crucial step

shall live up to the high
standards of your institution as a worthy student.

Abhik Gupta is a very bright student in my Fundamentals of
Financial Management class currently at Sri Guru Gobind Singh
College of Commerce, University of Delhi. He places high
importance on classwork and is always very sincere with his
18. assignments and projects in college. He has a sharp mind and is
a good analytical thinker. He has strong concepts in Finance and
Mathematics. I have never found him missing classes without a
proper reason, nor does he try to cut corners in his assignments.
His work is always well illustrated and very neat. This helps
him score well in his university examinations and always get
good grades in all his examinations.
Abhik keeps himself well read about the various finance and
business related news, both in India and internationally. His
views about financial asset classes and business finance are
always very clear and insightful. His project report on
“Investments in Startups” was awarded the best academic report
this year at our college.
He bagged a very prestigious internship with the Jacksons
Developers Pvt Ltd, a large corporate group in India where he
worked in with the Management team. This internship has
taught him several complexities that exist in the Indian business
environment. I am glad that he was able to apply what we have
taught him at college at a company of the scale of Jackson
Developers. He has also interned with Aadi International Export
House, another large business organization where he assisted
the head sales director to build presentations for clients.
Apart from academic excellence and business related
internships, Abhik also contributes his time towards volunteer
work to help the needy and destitute. He has been volunteering
with the Rotary Club for three years. He is also a noteworthy
debater for our college and has represented our college at
several university level debates.
Abhik has great potential to make a very good career in the
field of business management. I thus strongly support his
candidature at a good international university where he can gain
advanced skills in the field. I feel that his potential will be best
polished at an international university where he can be exposed
to new ideas in international management. This will help him to
emerge as an even more capable businessman in the years to
come. I wish him all the best with his future studies and career
19. thereafter.

To whom it may concern:
Abhik is a sincere student of our college who shall obtain a
First Division in his Bachelor of Commerce degree which will
be awarded to him in June 2018 from the University of Delhi.
He was my student in my Income Tax Law and Practice module
in 2016. Teaching him this subject during the last academic year
was a pleasure for me.
I have never seen Abhik miss any lecture. He pays full attention
to the concepts being discussed in class and often comes up
with very innovative concepts and intelligent queries that
sometimes even challenge the concepts that I have been
teaching. I truly feel that a subject like taxation laws is best
learnt through such interactions. Often I have been impressed
with his creative bent of mind which he applies during his
assignments. Once when the students were tasked to come up
with an alternative taxation system, Abhik came up with a very
innovative and comprehensive strategy that ensured that his
22. works gets rewarded with the only A grade in that assignment in
the entire batch.
Abhik also participated at the National Management Seminar
held at India Habitat Centre this year where he was the only
finalist from our college. I have even seen him participate
enthusiastically at events and seminars conducted by the
Commerce Society of the University where this confident boy
doesn’t hesitate to ask questions from the panelists and guest
speakers. He is also a very good sportsman and is the Vice-
Captain of the Cricket Team of the university. His oratory skills
have also given him much recognition and he has won the “Best
Speaker” award at the Delhi Open Debate Contest last year.
This summer Abhik interned with a company this year where he
was working on assessing the financial viability of a new real-
estate development project. In 2015 he interned with a company
that has launched a new brand of mobile phones. He shared with
me the advertising plans of the company that instead of using
the traditional advertising media like TV, newspaper and radio,
focused more on online advertising and targeted promotional
activities in schools and colleges. I was much impressed with
his enthusiasm with which he explained the ideas to me and also
incorporated the suggestions of our college’s marketing faculty
in his work. It is praiseworthy that as an intern Abhik took so
much interest in his duties.
When Abhik told me of his decision to pursue a master’s degree
in Management and thus propel his career in the field of
international business, I was very glad. I feel that his talent and
analytical thinking can be further sharpened at an international
university that can provide him with a wider gamut of
opportunities. I fully support his application.
Sincerely,
Dr. Baldev Singh Chauhan
