Vitamins are organic molecules that the body needs in small quantities for proper metabolism and to grow and develop normally. There are 13 essential vitamins the body needs, including vitamins A, E, K, D, B1, B2, and B3. Each vitamin has an important function like vision, blood clotting, bone health, and metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins and fats. Deficiency of vitamins can lead to diseases, with vitamin A deficiency causing night blindness and vitamin D deficiency causing rickets.
