"The Scarlet Ibis" is a short story written by James Hurst. It was first published
in The Atlantic Monthly in July 1960 and won the "Atlantic First" award. The story
has become a classic of American literature.
It is a touching story, fullof symbolismand meaning. It is told through the
narrator's eyes,as he looksback on his childhood, and the remarkable life of his
younger brother, Doodle.It is a story of two brothers, and how the pride of one
person can be an incredible and destructive force.
