Swimming Australia partners with AWS to
build a single source of truth for race data
Swimming Australia faced challenges in generating
benchmarking data for elite swimmers due to
disparate data sources, leading to a three-month
delay in creating reports for coaches.
Challenges
The organization worked with the Amazon Machine
Learning Solutions Lab (MLSL) team to create a
predictive algorithm for relay swimming, built on a
data lake that collates data through API’s and
website scraping.
Solution
Swimming Australia used its new insights in during
relay races to help coaches select the order of the
swimmers, resulting in the most successful relay
team at the Olympics in Tokyo, as well as the best
ever Australia medal haul with nine gold medals.
Outcome
We are now able to modernize our sport’s
business operations and work on a number of
projects that will help to connect and build the
swimming tribe, bringing incredible moments
of inspiration to Australians through the sport
of swimming.
