3. AGRICULTURE
The word agriculture is derived from Latin word
ager or agri meaning soil and culture meaning ,
cultivation or tilling of soil . Agriculture is a primary
activity. It includes growing crops ,fruits ,vegetables ,
flowers and rearing of live stock. In the world, 50%
persons are engaged in agricultural activity. India’s
2/3 population is still dependent on agriculture.
Favorable topography of soil and climate
are vital for agricultural activity. The land on which
the crops are grown is known as arable land. Some
important inputs of farming or agriculture are seeds,
fertilizers, machinery or lab our. Next page
4. Some of the operations involved in farming or
agriculture are ploughing ,sowing, irrigation
or harvesting. The output from the system
includes crops, wool ,dairy and poultry
products. In the past, agriculture is the only
source for earning the livelihood for the major
Indian population.
