Methane separation on Offshore Topside Platform
1. METHANE SEPARATION
Cryogenic method.
The temperature is reduced to -120 degree Fahrenheit.
The quick drop in temperature that the expander is capable of
producing condenses the hydrocarbons in the gas stream but maintain
methane in its gaseous form.
The absorption method on the other hand uses a absorbing oil to
separate the methane from NGLs. While the gas stream passes through
an absorption tower the absorption oil soaks up a large amount of
NGLs.
The enriched oil having NGLs exit from the bottom of tower which is
further heated above the boiling point of NGLs so the oil remain as
fluid & recycled while the NGLs are cooled & directed to fractionator
tower.
