Its A Fugitive Production!Target Audience Research
Target Audience Before starting to plan your movie it is important to research and set in your mind who is this movie being made for, which age group or people do you want to attract and what type of people you want to watch your movie. Knowing this will make it easier to realise what content you will need to add in your movie because different people watch movies for different reasons. For example some young teenagers and young adults enjoy watching movies which contain genres like thriller, violence action and many more where as audiences who are 35 or 40+, may enjoy movie genres like romance, family, sci-fi , western, war and many more. It is also crucial to get the target audience right due to the fact that if a lot of time and money has been put into this one movie you obviously want a positive outcome such as attract people to come and watch the movie, be number 1 in the box office also as a business make a profit on the other hand if all this is done incorrectly then the impact which the company or business will face will be dreadful.
The Audience The audience is split into many different into different categories and section to start off with there is social class, which gets splits into four different sub headings, position in society, working class, earnings and upper and lower class. All these are summed up with the heading upper class who are also known as aristocracy, middle class who are described as financially comfortable and working class who are described as lower paid jobs or manual workers. A: Lawyers, Doctors etc highly professional B: Teachers, Office managers etc C1: Clerical Staff – office workers, customer service ( A, B & C1 are in a section known as the White Collar) C2: Skilled Manual Workers D: Unskilled Manual Workers ( C2 & D these audiences are put into a section called Blue Collar ) Demographics: Demographic segmentation is a name in which characteristics of people such as sex, age, ethnicity, income, family size, occupation, education, marital status, social class, and stage of the family life cycle are split into different categories to end up with a target audience for a film
Physiographic Physiographic is a method used within the film industry to split the audience into 7 sections and what is most important to them. The audience is also categorised by their lifestyle by realising lifestyle explains, what their income is like and how they would go about spending, obviously some people would stop and think about what they are about to purchase before purchasing Lifestyle: Clam: someone who carefully uses their money and thinks before spending. Yaks: Single and adventurers Dinky: Dual income with no kids Mice: Money is coming in easy EWE: Expert with expensive lifestyle
Questions To get an idea of who my target audience will be I set out a questionnaire which I handed out to 20 people aged from 11-40. Here the questions asked: Are You Male or Female? How Old are You? What Is Your Favourite Movie Genre? Do You Watch A Movie Due To The Director? Do You Watch A Movie Because Of The Actors? Do You Prefer British Movies Or Hollywood? The next slide shows the feedback results.

Conclusion Now that I have come to the end of my target audience research I have realised what my possible target may be, I believe my Thriller/Horror movie will attract more males than females, from the age of 15-24, their lifestyles would be YAKS and MICE, the type of audience my movie will be for Aspirers, Resigned , Strugglers and finally Explorers.
