For non-registered programs please be aware that rooms cannot exceed legally regulated fire

Little Ones Storytime
(birth to 3 years)
Parents and caregivers are invited to bring their babies and
toddlers to share stories, songs, bounces, giggles and wiggles.

Parents/caregivers and their children are
invited to spend time with others enjoying

Looking for something fun to do this summer? Look no further! The
annual TD Summer Reading Club is back at the Pickering Public
Library. It’s fun! It’s free! Explore near and far when you join the club
and get your reading passport. Keep up your reading skills and win prizes!
Everyone who completes their report during the week of July 22nd (week 4), will be
recognized as a Library Champion and will receive a beautiful lawn sign to show your
friends, family and neighbours how awesome you are! One sign per family, while supplies
last. Get all the details when you register. Registration starts Saturday, June 22nd.
The Kick Off party is Wednesday, July 3, 2013 - 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Central

Do you have outstanding fees on your library card? Children can sign in to our ‘Reading
Room’ and read silently for 15 mins to have $5 waived off their Library card, or if they read for
30 mins they will have $10 waived. Children not yet able to read can have adults accompany
them and read quietly together. Fees can only be waived from children’s cards.

Show off your building skills by participating in our Builder Showcase!
1.	 Create a vehicle using any building toy
(Lego, Megablocks, K’nex, etc)
2.	 Drop off your vehicle at the Central Library
Auditorium on Friday, August 23rd between 1:00 p.m.
and 8:00 p.m.
3.	 On Saturday, August 24th, bring the family to the
Builder Showcase anytime between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Everyone who participates will receive a GO! Builder Certificate, a
small reward and be entered in a prize draw for a $50 gift card for
Toys ‘R’ Us. The draw will be held at 3:00 p.m. You must be present
to win. Vehicles must be picked up by 4 p.m.
Go! On an Amazing Journey
Join us for the final leg of the Summer Reading Club at the wrap party.
Families will be given a map and they must journey to different stations where they
will complete exciting challenges before heading on to their next stop. Complete all
the challenges and receive a prize.

Henna Workshop (12 to 17 years)
Want to learn the history and science of henna? Hamnah Nabeel,
a local henna artist, will show everyone different types of henna
design and explain more about the art of henna. There will also
be an opportunity to get your own henna design! The henna
she uses is made from all natural ingredients. Refreshments and
snacks will be provided. Registration is required in person or by

Teen Summer Reading
Club 2013
Why not turn your summer reading into a
chance to win great prizes? It is as simple as
registering, reading and writing short reviews.
For every review submitted, you will recieve a
ballot for the Summer Reading Club Auction.
Those interested in participating in this
reading program can register at any branch
starting Saturday, June 22nd. The program
runs until Saturday, August 31st. Everyone who
registers will be entered into a draw to win an
autographed box set of John Green’s books and
receive a voucher to clear overdue fees.
Registration is required in person.
Summer Reading
Club Auction
After a summer of earning book ballots,
use them at our silent auction to win
prizes such as an ipod nano, a kobo
mini, and tons of other prizes donated by
our generous library supporters. Drop in
and put your ballots into the ballot boxes
of the prizes you wish to win and we will
draw winners. So, the more you read, the
better chance you have of winning.

Photography Basics
Don’t know the difference between a dSLR and
compact point-and-shoot camera? Don’t know which
one to buy? This workshop will help you understand
the basics of modern digital cameras. Also learn about
the camera aperture, shutter, ISO, white balance,
storage formats and more. If you have a digital
camera, please feel free to bring it along. Registration

Photoshop 101
Learn the basics of photo editing and manipulation
using Adobe Photoshop. This workshop will help
you with cropping, enhancing and improving colour

Audio Recording
Learn the basics of recording audio using the
freely available Audacity software. Understand the
differences between a dynamic and condenser
microphone, how to plugin and use a microphone,
arming a track for recording, adjusting volume
levels, avoiding noise and clipping, using effects and
more. Microphone will be provided. Registration

Video Composition and
Shooting
Before going into the “editing room”, you’ll need some
video footage. This workshop will teach you the basics
of composing and shooting digital video. Learn about the
different techniques in recording smooth video such as
fluid head tripods and steadicams, framing your shots, the
rule of thirds and more. Workshop will focus on shooting
for interviews and corporate videos. Registration begins
Tuesday, August 6th at 9:30 a.m.

Little Ones Storytime (birth to 3 years) Parents and caregivers are invited to bring their babies and toddlers to share stories, songs, bounces, giggles and wiggles. At the Central Library: Mondays at 11:00 a.m. and Thursdays at 11:00 a.m. July 8th / July 11th to August 19th / 22nd Storytime Social (birth to 3 years) Parents/caregivers and their children are invited to spend time with others enjoying refreshments while celebrating books and music. Create a vehicle using any building toy (Lego, Megablocks, K’nex, etc) 2. Drop off your vehicle at the Central Library Auditorium on Friday, August 23rd between 1:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. 3. On Saturday, August 24th, bring the family to the Builder Showcase anytime between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Everyone who participates will receive a GO! Builder Certificate, a small reward and be entered in a prize draw for a $50 gift card for Toys ‘R’ Us. The draw will be held at 3:00 p.m. You must be present to win. Vehicles must be picked up by 4 p.m. Go! On an Amazing Journey Join us for the final leg of the Summer Reading Club at the wrap party.
