A) Given the following data set: Indicate where the buffer capacity has been exceeded.
The buffer capacity was exceeded when ( 5 /10 /15/ 20 /25 ) mL of NaOH was added.
B) When the following solutions are combined, is a buffer created?
( Yes/ No) H 3 PO 4 (aq) + HPO 4
2-
(aq)
( Yes /No ) CH 3 COOH (aq) + NaCH 3 COO (aq)
( Yes/ No) H 2 CO 3 (aq) + NaHCO 3 (aq)
Solution pH Change in pH
Acetic acid (25 mL) 2.88
Sodium acetate 7.46
Mixture (50 mL) 4.70
After 5 mL NaOH 4.90 0.20
After 10 mL NaOH 5.13 0.23
After 15 mL NaOH 5.42 0.29
After 20 mL NaOH 5.95 0.53
After 25 mL NaOH 11.17 5.22
Solution
Dear student ,first one is experimental.
Combined buffer solution:-
(1) No
(2) Yes, .CH3COOH + CH3COONa
It is the buffer of weak acid and it's salt of strong base so it form acidic buffer.
(3) Yes, H2CO3 + NaHCO3 it is also form buffer. It is also acidic buffer as it is mixture of weak
acid and it's salt of strong base.
